Kergohy

You'll have the unforgettable experience of spending time in day-to-day work with the alpacas as a part of the 2 and 4 legged family for however long you are here.

Kergohy alpaca farm is on the edge of a village and is a peaceful place with a small wood and a stream running through the land. There are lots of birds here - 74 at the last count - and it’s a very rare day that has no birdsong, even in winter.

This is a working farm and, apart from the care of the alpacas every day, there is always maintenance work to be done – fencing, tree clearing and bridge building are some of the recent projects. There is also some building work on old farm buildings which are being restored and repurposed.

Work is not hard, but it can be physical - sensible weather-appropriate working clothes are essential, including a waterproof jacket. Wellies and gloves are provided.

The language of the farm is English, although I can speak French.

Volunteers are treated as part of the family and have their own bedroom and bathroom.
Meals are eaten together - and clearing up is done together as well! You will be well-fed - I like to cook a variety of dishes, of which very few would be suitable for restricted diets, such as vegetarian/vegan, gluten/lactose intolerance or for religious obligations such as kosher or halal.

For health and safety reasons, the whole farm is a 'no smoking/vapeing' area.

I like to show visitors this wonderful corner of the world and days out when essential animal work is done are all part of the experience.

You're encouraged to explore the area on your own and a bike is available for anyone who'd like to explore the cycling routes of Brittany.

Please note: France does not recognise the concept of digital nomad and it is not permitted to work like this in France.

Mo & Stuart are wonderful and very interesting people who were a pleasure to spend my time with! They are kind & knowledgeable about local culture and really, really want you to experience cool new stuff as much as possible, whether that's odd jobs, cycling the countryside, going to festivals, meeting locals, or of course, the alpacas!! Food was great and the room was private and comfortable. The farm and village are peaceful and I would recommend to anyone who wants to experience a slower, more intentional way of living!!

It was my first volunteering experience, and it was absolutely amazing! I learned so many new things, got to hear so many interesting stories, and experienced the French way of life. The work wasn't hard, and the working hours were just the right amount, with relaxing tea breaks included. The food was delicious, and the room was spacious and really nice. I would definitely recommend this experience!!

If you're looking for a third set of grandparents, look no further! Mo and Stuart are kind, intelligent, &supportive people with countless inspiring stories to share (seriously, the BBC needs to get on that)! They deeply engrained the value of always looking forward & striving to learn something new everyday. I loved how involved they were in the community of Trêve &learned a lot about rural French culture. The work was straightforward, the food was delicious (endless apple juice btw!), &obviously the animals!! I already miss the dogs & making sure Reefer gets his uninterrupted snack time. <3

Staying with Mo and Stuart is less of a volunteering 'job', and more of an induction into a family, and the ways of rural French life. They are truly excellent hosts, as well as just people, who provide all the assistance, delicious food, and laughter that you need (plus a little extra)! Undertaking construction projects and the animal tasks taught me a whole host of new skills I had not yet had the chance to explore, and each day allowed me to recenter nature and pure joy into my life. The alpacas are also such funny characters, and you definitely grow to adore each one (Hello to The Dude!)

I'm writing with tears in my eyes (happy tears) I had the most beautiful experience! I have no words to describe my happiness and how grateful I am! Mo and Stuart are wonderful human beings! They are so funny and knowledgeable. I LEARNED SO MANY THINGS.From construction to history and CULTURE. This is more than a volunteering experience, this is a beautiful home with many family members! Because every alpaca doggie and kitty is part of this big family! If you come you will notice how every alpaca is different and they have unique personalities! I would definitely come back, I miss everyone!
