The Farmacy

New: Last min openings! The Farmacy is an organic, sustainable garden project located in the heart of the Swiss Alps with tons to do and see. Hiking, biking, climbing and Adventure Sports of every kind. The Farmacy is a project that’s goal is to teach sustainability, create community and connect people to where food comes from and it’s true value. Volunteers should be eager to learn these principles and proactively follow them. The work required is physical: gardening, cleaning, housekeeping, laundry, help cooking. Note: this is a real volunteer and learning experience. If you are just looking for a free place to stay and cheap travel DON’T come here!

We are kind, tidy, respectful and fun people with a passion for gardening and heirloom vegis. You can eat amazing healthy, organic, home grown food every day and enjoy beautiful nature everywhere around you while learning principles of more sustainable living. You will have a room you share with 1 other volunteer, a shared bathroom and kitchen, wifi, a bike to use and Info about all the great stuff to see and do here. We take volunteers from March through October only.

My time with Liz was amazing!
The work is mainly cleaning apartments but not hard work & not everyday. Other days we worked in the garden (picking, weeding) or cooking. We had so many days off to explore the mountains!
It’s only fair to mention there is a possibility of sleeping in the shed outside, the dorm is located in the cellar and the toilet/shower can only be reached when going outside first and this is in a shared space with washing machines/fridge/sink/storage& kitchen is outside, which was somewhat unpleasant.
Overall I had the best time ever and Liz makes you feel at home!

Liz is a wonderful source of knowledge pertaining to sustainability, eco system, culture, and local activities. She is open and friendly with the volunteers, and will often suggest great places to visit that not everyone knows about.

My time working for Liz was truly unforgettable. Her home is located in the most beautiful location in the alps, and she truly welcomes you into it. She also provides you with all of the information you need to make the most of your stay. I learned so much about sustainable living, housekeeping, cooking, and gardening, while having an amazing time with Liz and the other volunteers. She really creates a family during your stay, and I feel truly lucky for my opportunity to get to know her and explore Interlaken :) thank you Liz! <3

Liz is a really energetic and confident person. She loves a chat and wants you to experience the best of Switzerland. She has great tips on places to visit throughout town and beyond. The work is pretty straight forward and Liz is clear about her expectations. It's worth noting that it's more 90% cleaning and 10% gardening. It didn't offer as much on sustainability as I'd hoped. Future programs should better balance the chores with learning. Highlight was the food and meeting other volunteers! Liz gives us great recipes and we have access to freshly harvested fruit and Veg!

Unfortunately Jessica stayed with me during a time period where I was on holidays for 2 of the 6 weeks she was there, and we had an unprecedented amount of rain and bad weather which is not normal for summer and prevented us from doing much outside. so not so much opportunity for learning due to those 2 factors. But it was great having her and I would definitely host her again!

Staying with Liz was a great experience for me! the location amazing with tons to explore locally and its well connected by trains and buses if you want to explore further. I've learned a lot with Liz and got to know her very well :) The work is not too hard and can only get tricky when drying laundry on rainy days haha
Liz really welcomes you into her life and wants to share experiences with you, she is very involved in the work and hanging out with the team after! she also has a lot of great recommendations for trips in the area and wants to help you see Switzerland!
