Our stay with Dita and Endik was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived they made us feel incredibly welcomed and at home. What made this experience so special was the culture exchange. They shared so much of their knowledge and experiences with us, from local culture and traditions to coffee, batik, and insights into the community and environment. They even took us to local beaches, local salt farm, star fruit plantation and coffee plantation! Another bonus was Dita's amazing home cooking which she was happy to also teach us about. Highly recommend this experience.

I highly recommend this experience. I spent an amazing week with Dita and her lovely family. She is a very inspiring, strong, and passionate person who, in just one week, taught me a lot — from Indonesian culture and cuisine to the Muslim religion, and of course, environmental conservation. She opens the doors of her home and makes you feel like a member of her family. Her project is wonderful and addresses many important areas, such as environmental conservation and supporting the local community.

Dita's place is wonderful. Even though I came in off season it was a nice place to relax, meet the locals and eat delicious local food made by Melinda. Make sure you go there in the shelter season, that would've made the workexperience a lot better😅

Two sea turtle egg incubation boxes have been replaced. It has been incredibly helpful. He is young, very energetic, and always makes time to run for exercise around the beach and the hills here. Thank you, Johannes. 🌿🐢

I had a great time at Serang beach! A week was the perfect length for me. I stayed in a room at Dita's house (there is also a guesthouse a short walk away). Dita and Melinda are great cooks and everyone is really kind :) We even made batik one day which was awesome! It was very peaceful and calm; there's some hiking nearby and a river to swim in, though you can't swim at the beach because of the strong waves. The work was very relaxed, to the point that I felt more like a homestay guest than a volunteer, but i also visited in the off season for the shelter hatching so it may be different May-Sep.

Besides enjoying the sunset 🌅, she also helped arrange plants in the mangrove area 🌱. She is a kind person and always shares her smile 😊 with the local community.

Our experience at the shelter was really great. Even if we could not see any turtles (we can't control nature), we were happy to contribute, help and learn about them. The three members of the team are incredible and really kind, the food is amazing and the work really easy. Our stay was really relaxing, peaceful and close to the nature. We loved it and recommend it without any hesitation.

Although she seems gentle, she showed strong energy 💪 while leveling the sand in the conservation area 🐢. All activities were carried out very well, especially collecting the plastic waste scattered everywhere ♻️🌿

I absolutely loved my stay at the shelter. From the beginning, Dita was so welcoming and eager to share her culture with us. Everyday we were able to make an array of teas or coffee, and we had such amazing Indonesian food cooked by Melinda! I was lucky to experience 5 the shelter releases during my 2 week stay - and every time was better than the previous. Knowing that I was making a difference not only to the ocean's marine life, but also to the environment of Serang Beach through planting mangroves, was an experience I'll truly treasure forever. Thank you, it was the absolute best!

Kath is a very disciplined and dedicated volunteer. She's a true morning person, always ready to start the day early with full energy. From Monday to Friday, she consistently followed all scheduled activities at the turtle conservation center with great commitment and punctuality. From the very beginning, the team made me feel completely at home. the shelter sanctuary is nestled in the heart of nature, creating a peaceful and inspiring environment. The project itself touches your heart—you genuinely feel that you're contributing to something meaningful. Even the smallest actions here have a big impact. So many projects were carried out, and each one was unique. The sense of art was incredibly strong. One major project was creating MAN TRASH, a male doll filled with trash collected along the beach. This project has raised awareness among the local community about the importance of protecting the environment from plastic waste. For us, that’s truly amazing✨❤️

I volunteered here for a month and it was amazing. I felt extremely welcomed by Dita, Endik and the local people! This area doesn't have any foreigners so to be immersed within local culture was genuine and insightful. Being one of the first volunteers here I had the opportunity to create a mural on the shelter doors which I was very grateful for. When I wasn't spending time painting I was incubating the shelter eggs and releasing baby turtles - this was such a special experience and to be able to help protect the turtles was priceless. I learnt a lot here and I would definitely recommend.
