Ayvalik - Turkey

A boutique place to live and work. We only have 3-4 staff except volunteers. You’ll be able to meet everyone and have connection. We’re so close to everywhere in town. You can see around the city by walk. Beach and other areas are close enough to take bus. You’ll have too much free time to enjoy city and go to beach and parties. You’ll have many friends. We’re also so close to Lesvos island of Greece so Ayvalik is a good destination to visit Greek regions.

I’m a 24 year old hotel owner with my family. We have extra staff rooms in our place and I want to turn them into an opportunity for travelers. I also want to make friends around the world around my age.

Volunteering at Rebetiko hotel was an amazing experience. Sima and her family are so kind and generous. The food cooked by Fatma abla is delicious. The work is easy, we helped with the breakfast and cleaning the rooms/common area. The hotel is perfectly located in the city center and we had plenty of time to visitthe hotel with the other volunteers.

Rebetiko was my first Worldpackers experience, I stayed there for 3 weeks, and I cried when it was time to leave🥹First couple of days were difficult, since most staff don't speak english and you're kinda figuring everything out on your own, but I was lucky enough to meet another volunteers who spoke turkish and english, and even a girl who spoke my native language. I had 2 types of shifts - room- or kitchen cleaning, working hours were always respected. Be prepared - it's a real work. Food was amazing, 3 times a day + fruits and drinks. You truly feel like at home. Hope to be back one day❤️

It was my first time volunteering abroad and it went even better than I expected! Rebetiko is forever in my heart as the home far away from home❤️‍🩹 I already miss all hotel's team, this people are so kind, fair and welcoming. There wasn't ANY day during my month stay on which I was left hungry or made to work more than I have to. The work is not that hard, you just need to get used to it (I did waitress job and cleaned kitchen or rooms). The food is delicious, atmosphere is pleasant! The only disadvantage is too tiny room but it is nothing compared to emotions you get and people you meet🫶🏼

I had such a nice time here! As mentioned in other reviews, most of the workers do not speak much English. However everyone is very kind and welcoming. You will probably pick up some Turkish. Google translate is super helpful, I recommend getting your data through Vodafone instead of Turk Telekom for better internet access. You will work hard but in exchange you get to eat an amazing breakfast every morning. The beach is pretty close by bus. You should visit the rock cliffs next to Cleopatra beach. Working hours are generally respected, if you don't want to do extra you can say no.

This was my first Worldpackers experience and it has given me high expectations! Sima and her family are lovely people and all the staff are amazing and helpful. There's a bit of an adjustment period where you figure everything out but you can always ask questions! Working hours are respected, meals are delicious, and the surrounding community is so much fun. I would recommend this to travelers looking to get off the beaten path and be a small, but important, part of something bigger. Thank you Rebetiko!
