Cofradia Bilingual Center

The school is located in the lovely town of Cofradia, Cortes, near to the Carribean coast of Honduras. We aim to offer a top-quality, affordable bilingual education to our children and a level of community support and involvement that does not exist in the local public schools. Many of our kids come from very low socio-economic backgrounds and thanks to our volunteers we are able to offer them a free or low cost bilingual education they could not otherwise afford. Being bilingual in Honduras is a massive advantage and gives our kids the chance to end the cycle of poverty for themselves and for their families.

Our volunteers love working with the students at our school as well as the bond that is created between our teachers. At any one time we normally have between 4 and 6 volunteers teaching with us. Our volunteers typically spend the time after school together and often travel together at the weekends to the rivers in town.

I had a great time teaching at CBC. As an ESL teacher I was able to learn a lot and see what it’s like to teach in different countries. I taught the kindergartners for half of my time and I was able to improve my Spanish so much. The house provided is nice and we were given enough money to buy groceries each week. We worked a bit more than 8 hours a day which is to be expected at a school but it’s not the 5 hours that was originally stated. I recommend this Workaway for anyone who wants to see what local life is like,
get experience teaching, and help out kids.

J'ai passé un excellent moment durant ce volontariat. L'accueil a été parfait et Ariel vous met tout de suite à l'aise. Pendant ce volontariat, j'ai eu le droit à un confort de vie très agréable avec un logement très bien situé, propre et aussi Ariel allait faire les courses pour nous !
L'intégration dans l'école s'est très bien passée avec une équipe très accueillante, souriante et des conditions de travail très bonnes.
De plus, j'ai été tout le temps avec au moins un autre volontaire ce qui permet de vraiment partager des moments pendant et après les cours !

I had a great time at Cofradía Bilingual Center. The kids at the school are amazing; they’re the ones who make this experience so special and memorable. Ariel is a wonderful host who always makes sure you feel welcome and safe, both at the school and at home.
However, I think it’s really important to speak Spanish, as communication can be challenging in English with the kids, other teachers, and around town.

Overall we had a really nice experience. Out of school every problem we addressed got dealt with and the kids were really sweet:))
Cofradia it self has a bit of everything and we always felt safe.
