Cofradia Bilingual Center

The school is located in the lovely town of Cofradia, Cortes, near to the Carribean coast of Honduras. We aim to offer a top-quality, affordable bilingual education to our children and a level of community support and involvement that does not exist in the local public schools. Many of our kids come from very low socio-economic backgrounds and thanks to our volunteers we are able to offer them a free or low cost bilingual education they could not otherwise afford. Being bilingual in Honduras is a massive advantage and gives our kids the chance to end the cycle of poverty for themselves and for their families.

Our volunteers love working with the students at our school as well as the bond that is created between our teachers. At any one time we normally have between 4 and 6 volunteers teaching with us. Our volunteers typically spend the time after school together and often travel together at the weekends to the rivers in town.

The kids are wonderful! I taught the advanced classes with kids aged 11-14, they are eager to learn and fun to spend time with. The classes with the younger grades are entirely different, more than 25 kids and you are expected to manage, discipline and teach them alone. During my time at the school, Ariel was only there about half the time and rarely helped when we had issues (things like wifi, schedules, and general support). No curriculum gives you a lot of freedom but can be difficult if you don't have experience. Overall a great experience but lacking organization, support, and resources.

I really enjoyed my time here! Cofradia may be quiet, but its unique charm offers a look into real life. The other volunteers did their best to prepare me for school, and the school staff greeted me warmly. While the school lacked organisation, I know Ariel is doing the best he can with the resources he has.
The children of course leave a lasting impact, it was a pleasure being able to teach them.
Embracing ambiguity with an open mind is important, in summary you really get what you give out of this experience.

My time at the school was great! Ariel is a fantastic person who cares a lot about the kids and the volunteers. He always makes sure that everyone is comfortable, safe and that the house is working. The school activities can be tough, expecially for a first-time teacher, but with careful lessons planning it's fine.

Volunteering at CBS was an amazing experience, kids are lovely and challenging of course. Ariel, David, Leticia everyone on the team is a beautiful soul. And of course Honduras was amazing to explore during the weekends. Truly happy and blessed to be part of this project

Ariel has a beautiful project in Cofradia, I had to thank to Ariel for allow me to be part of this incredible project, he was always aware about our needs and he is really flexible about any change of plans or inconvenience, what can I say about the lovely kids, they are so sweet and you feel that you are making a real impact to this community, I will go in a near future to the project, I recommend to belong to this project in 100%
