Creagh House

It's fun being at Creagh during the summer, there's lots of people staying, music and dance, and walks in the woods, and sometimes canoeing. We like to meet people from other cultures. Quieter in the winter, and colder but we generally still have fun 😊 In winter you should be prepared for cold temperatures in the house, we generally live at 14 deg centigrade, except for the main living room which has a stove. Dancing keeps you warm!

You will be treated as one of the family! We work hard but not for long hours. We eat together at least once a day, and sometimes go out in the evening together. Volunteers sleep in a large dormitory room, with up to 4 other people of any gender. We do have a tiny mezzanine available sometimes for couples. Routine is that you will work 4 days a week for 6 hours each day though we can be flexible, for instance if you are working on line you can distribute your 25 hours a week so that you can still keep up with your remote working. We expect you to be flexible too, sometimes you will be asked to work a weekend shift, or start early. Work is all physical, cleaning, ironing , changing beds, gardening, painting, construction, emptying compost toilet cleaning geese pen, chopping wood, stacking turf etc etc

Creagh was the best place for my first volunteer experience.
It was so fun to learn Irish dancing and go to trad gigs in Galway and Annie and Pete and their sons Gus and Theo were so lovely and welcoming and made us feel at home. The community at Creagh was so wonderful and the other volunteers were wonderful.

The work wasn’t too hard and there was always someone around to offer advice or help if we needed it. The hours were flexible as well which was super helpful.

I had an absolute blast at Creagh House. The work was flexible, straightforward and always shown in a way that helped me to learn, there was always another challenge.
Annie, Pete, her two sons Theo and Gus and all other residents and volunteers at Creagh were the most friendly, inclusive and welcoming people allowing me to get involved in Irish trad music, dancing and culture. This may have been my first volunteer experience but I’m not sure I’ll be able to top it anytime soon.

My experience at Creagh was absolutely amazing. Annie, Pete, and the whole Creagh gang are incredibly welcoming to all who come through the doors. The work is simple and varied so you won't get bored. The house is full of music and dancing (and soup!). If you are going during the winter, take an extra pair of socks and get a taste for tea.

This was one of the most enriching cultural experiences I’ve ever had! At Creagh House, I was welcomed like family, with work hours respected and a flexible, understanding environment. Visitors should bring warm clothes in winter and clothes that can handle dirt or paint, as tasks often involve renovation, repairs, or gardening. I immersed myself in Irish culture, learning traditional dance and music, and enjoyed the stunning nearby lake and nature walks. I’m so grateful for this incredible opportunity—it’s an experience I’ll always cherish!
