The moment I set foot in Duckstay I knew there was something special about this place. The staff was warm and welcoming right off the bat. The hostal has a very intriguing style which is a mixture between a warehouse and a Hi-Tech security facility with enough homely details peppered in that make for a very unique atmosphere. Wendy, Andy and Cola were very hospitable until the very end and I enjoyed hanging out with them, particularly after hours. I'm glad I made such good friends during my stay. I recommend Duckstay to just about anybody!
From the bottom of my heart, thanks for everything!
As a solo traveler, when I decided to look for a volunteering experience, part of my motivation was to meet new people and actually interact. The permanent staff at this hostel barely interact with the volunteers and in two weeks that I stayed there (I left a week early) I was never given an opportunity to do something that would make me interact with the guests. I only cleaned. 5 hrs a day of housekeeping. They give you a list of things to do in the beginning of your shift but if you complete that list before your shift is up, your reward is not more free time but more work. Terrible deal.
