Empty Space Chiangmai

This is a very special and unique place, 30 km away from the main Chiangmai city, but immersed in the valley among local places, which offered a real experience within the natural environment and having a ceramic studio at the heart of their activities though still have many others holistic activities to offer as well a big pond and a rich garden. The atmosphere it is enjoyable and relaxed, good to live and work, in a peaceful but still vibrant place.

We all live and work here with our own projects and personal practices of yoga or tai chi, etc. We are a small group of people, in a few of the small houses that you will find inside Empty Space community, of artists who choose to live in balance with the nature, and we will invite you to join us in our own journey, with responsibility and sense of duty, but holding the essence of peaceful and kindness values on top of all. We wish you to find your self comfortable and welcome at our place, while you stay with us. Sharing some activities and good times of learning from one each other.

I had an amazing time here I extended my stay. I learned so much about Thai culture, cooking, sustainable practices and working with clay! The host is very inspiring and I am lucky to have had this experience. I am truly changed for the better.

Not many words can describe the experience I've had here so I'll just list the things I miss. Pi Oi (a good woman), Pi Ban (a good man), Pi Pum (the best dog), Pi Noi (a very hard worker), Pi Sauce (almost best dog), Pi Nouha (a wise woman), Pi Elis (the woman who talks uncontrollably), Pi Coni (the artistically expressive woman) and the traditional home-cooked food (quite good indeed). It's a very constructive place to learn Thai and allows you to slow down to live simply.

The home was a lovely relaxed environment in nature, the team were lovely but the communication before I arrived could have been better as I hadn't had any questions answered until a few days prior. The food was amazing!! And they catered for me as a vegetarian which I apppreciate but just to make people aware that the listing is incorrect with 3 meals a day, you get 2 meals mon-fri and can use leftovers for breakfasts, there are no meals on weekends. The work is very chilled and easy & I enjoyed working in the pottery. Overall it was great, 4 stars only reflects the listing & communication

Absolutely amazing!! I returned here for a second time with only 6 weeks away and I'm already planning my third visit! What you see is what you get. You're out in nature, doing the described work for 3 hrs each weekday morning, provided with lunch and dinner, and lots of free time to explore. Opportunities to practice Tai Chi and mediation each morning, take ceramics workshops, get Thai massage, learn about Thai cooking, and so much more. Everyone is welcomed with open arms and made to feel at home. If you're into art, being outdoors, looking to make a positive impact, what're you waiting for?

So grateful to be welcomed into Pi Noi's home, as it was such a special experience. I felt like I could really experience Chiang Mai with a lovely Thai community, and as my first solo travelling and volunteering experience, it was fantastic. I felt very welcome, and getting to know Pi Noi, Pi Oi, Pi Bahn and Nouha truly made me feel like part of a family for 10 days. For the 3 hours of work each day I was sifting clay, rolling it into slabs and preparing for Pi Noi's upcoming exhibition. We spent our free time being introduced to local cafes, markets, temples and locals. Highly recommend!
