Global Village

We are a small independently run hostel in Belfast. Currently rated number 1 in Northern Ireland on hostelworld. We like to have people work with us who are friendly and outgoing, who are here to get something from this experience, socialize with the guests and staff, create a buzz and be a contributing character and presence to the hostel. In exchange for free accommodation in our 6 bed mixed staff dorm you will be required to work up to 3 hours a day either cleaning the hostel and making beds in the morning or 6 hour reception duties during the day plus 1 night shift per week which is from 8pm to 8am. After your night shift you get the next day and one extra day off! We are a super friendly and chilled out hostel with artwork on nearly every wall which guests who are artists have done while they have stayed with us. We see it more of a homely feel hostel as the volunteers stay on site and they treat it as if it were their home. We do ask for a minimum stay of 1 month so you can learn the ropes and get familiar with the hostel and get to have a real feel for the city.

Hi! My name is Nerea. I'm from Barcelona, Spain. I came to Global Village as a volunteer back in 2019 for a month, loved it so much that I stayed until July 2020. This year I became the manager. When I started I found the place to be really fun and relaxed and everyone very welcoming. The owner, Mark, is a really friendly, young Irish guy who has traveled the world and has designed the hostel to what travelers expect from a hostel. He also has a cool little Boston terrier dog named Buju that never leaves his side! He's pretty cool! Over the past 2 years i have been in and out of the hostel traveling and working, and no matter how long i leave for i have always been welcomed back by Mark. I'm always happy to meet people around the world. If you choose to stay and volunteer with us you will have full unlimited access to all the facilities here at GV including Netflix, Xbox, 4 guitars and 2 amps, keyboard and a cajone! Free unlimited internet and apple macs, free pool table and Foosball table, free kitchen facilities (2 ovens and stoves, 2 sinks, microwave, pots and pans and cutlery) free pasta, spices, rice, bread, jam, cereal, milk and free laundry facilities! We only have 48 beds so it is considered a small hostel but we are very concentrated on the guest/volunteer interaction. This results in a much better experience for both guest and volunteer. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, we look forward to hearing from you and possibly meeting you! Cheers, Nerea.

I spend the last six months in this hostel. It was the best experience that I could have had! All of the beautiful memories will stay with me forever. The old manager Stef and the new manager Jazmine were the best people that you can find! When I first arrived at the hostel I didn’t speak English well and they have helped me a lot. The owner Mark is also a very nice and friendly person. I recommend this place with all my heart ! It is like my second family.

GV is a home away from home and was a wonderful place to stay for a few weeks. The staff and other volunteers were kind and genuine people and I came away with a bunch of new friends :)

The tasks and hours are all properly outlined and exactly as described. You always have at least one other staff around to help or to ask questions to.

The location is great, a close walk from museums, restaurants, and walking paths. The house is cozy, definitely in need of some repairs but overall it's a great place to stay.

I had the absolute best time at Global Village! The work is fair, everything is within walking distance, and the people are amazing. It was very social and felt like home :) I wish I could have stayed longer!!!

I wouldnt recommend this hostel, it wasnt a good experience. The work is heavy and there's no comfort when I had little time to relax, the bed was very bad. As a volunteer for me it means to exchange and learn, which wasn't the way it was like a job with no pay with all the resposability and problems with no help. because of the price local people would appear for one night and it was very uncomfortable for everyone and doesnt feel like a safe place, if you were young and in a group of people who like to party this is more suited to you with good entertainment and games during day and night.
