Knipnäs
Welcome to Knipnäs, a unique historic property surrounded by forests, gardens and the beautiful coastline of southern Finland.
We are looking for reliable, independent and respectful people who enjoy practical work and appreciate peaceful surroundings. If you like taking care of a place, working with attention to detail and having your own space while sharing everyday life with others, you may feel at home here.
We receive many applications, so please read our profile carefully before applying. We'd also love to know why you would like to volunteer specifically at Knipnäs. If we think it could be a good match, we'll arrange a short video call to get to know each other.
Knipnäs is a former hospital built in the 1930s and transformed into a unique property that today welcomes tourists, long-term residents, artists and different kinds of groups throughout the year. Alongside the main building, we also manage several guest accommodations surrounded by nature.
Our focus is caring for the guest accommodations and helping maintain the property. Depending on the season, there are also practical improvement projects where volunteers can contribute according to their skills and interests.
The property is located just a short walk from the sea and about 2 km from the centre of Tammisaari (Ekenäs). It offers a peaceful atmosphere, beautiful garden, nearby forests and plenty of space to relax and enjoy nature during your free time.
We ask volunteers to stay for a minimum of one month so there is enough time to settle in, learn the routines and become part of the team.
Living at Knipnäs offers a slower pace of life, surrounded by nature and peaceful surroundings. It's a place where you can enjoy your own space while sharing everyday life with other volunteers and a few long-term residents.
Volunteers have their own private room whenever possible (or occasionally share with one other volunteer, depending on availability). The volunteer living area includes shared kitchens, bathrooms, showers and common spaces.
The property is surrounded by beautiful gardens, forests and the sea. A small beach is only a few minutes' walk away, and the area offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature during your free time. Deer, rabbits and many birds are frequent visitors to the gardens.
We don't organise a fixed social programme, but when there are several volunteers at the same time, people often spend time together naturally, depending on everyone's interests and availability.
A wood-fired sauna is usually heated once a week.
We ask everyone to help keep the shared spaces clean and comfortable, and to respect each other's privacy and quiet time.
No drugs are allowed, and alcohol should be consumed responsibly.
We currently have a couple of bicycles available for volunteers, and we hope to restore more over time as part of ongoing improvement projects.
