Brenda and James are wonderful hosts, welcoming, kind, willing to share about their life as well as about the home community and Malaysia. The life in the village which can only be reached by airplane or by boat can be tough yet Brenda and James went to great length to accommodate our plant based diet and told us a lot about leaves and herbs. The tasks could be physically demanding and also very different depending on the day - you could be asked to clean the guesthouse or to cut lianas on a mango tree :)

We spent 10 days with my girlfriend at the home, deep in the rainforest. Brenda and James are a lovely couple running the volunteer program — they really made us feel welcomed. The park is remote and isolated, wildlife is always around, it rains a lot and there is not much to do beside discovering nature and local culture. Work is a bit of everything, from painting and gardening to heavier tasks, I pretty much enjoyed everything which came. For an authentic Borneo rainforest experience, highly recommend! 🙂 Be prepared, it rains a lot and the wildlife really comes and go :)

My time in the home was as amazing as it could have been, James being a fun and providing host who has an interesting background and knowledge. The location is beautiful, park entrance pass for 5 days cost 30 RM and gives you access to one of the world's most complex cave systems. In your free time you'll be able to do the tours and hike through the tropical rainforest (town itself is small and not much to do so be prepared to entertain yourself :)). James always communicated on the workload and it felt like an easy-going vibe. For all nature lovers I would highly recommend this place.

I stayed at the home with my sister for 2 weeks and I will definitely return again some day! Brenda and James are exceptional hosts with tons of valuable knowledge about the home National Park, local culture, and living harmoniously with the jungle. the home National Park is a wonderful place to explore. However, it is extremely remote and there is almost nothing in town other than the park and a few cafes. The guesthouse is situated at the edge of town and there are cafes and a supermarket close by. If you enjoy rivers, caves, and hiking and don't mind being disconnected, I highly recommend it!
