My sister and I had a very good time at the shelter Cafe the shelter. We would recommend this stay to anyone who want's to learn about horses and donkeys and all the other animals living on the farm.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Everyone was very nice and friendly and made me feel at home very quickly. I also had a bike I could use, so I could get to the beach or to the nearby town pretty easily. Work was finished usually at twelve o'clock every day and I had the rest of the day free to rest and explore the surroundings.

I spent a very good time their. The job is physical : feed horses and donkeys and clean the fields. You need to like them. In May, this part of Spain is already hot and you are working outside (7:30 - 12:30 most of the time). Sue and Ron, the fondeurs impressed me with their dedication and passion. And so is the team of workers and local volunteers, many of them come several times a week. I have been very well welcome. Much better with a car but not impossible without : buses in Rojales (15 min walk or 7 with bike) to Alicante, Guardamar, or Murcie. Only english speakers their.

I had a really good time staying here and I loved walking up in the morning to all the animal noises. Both me and my friend felt really welcome by the host and he even took us grocery shopping the first day! It's early mornings feeding the donkeys and horses and then after feeding it's time for field cleaning, we worked 4-6 hours a day so we got plenty of time exploring the area. I stayed in a shared room with my friend and it was a good room with both ac, a sofa and a little table to eat on. The whole team was the shelter going and we had a good time with them!I definitely recommend to stay here!

I had an amazing time at the shelter, everyone there is really kind and welcoming. The tasks were as expected (feeding in the morning and then clearing fields) and not difficult, you quickly find your rhythm. Depending on how long you want to work you are done at about 12:30, but I often worked longer because I enjoyed it and there is always stuff to do. In the afternoons or on days off you can reach some surrounding towns and the beach by bike, but there are also 2 cats and all the horses and donkeys that love cuddles. I will miss all the people and the animals and hope to be back soon

My time at the shelter was great! I had a great time surrounded by great people. Thankfully there were other volunteers there at the same time as me which made things more enjoyable. It can be a little lonely if there's not. We all had separate rooms which were very nice and equipped with towels and AC! The town and beach are a lot farther than it says on the map, so it can be hard to go out and do things. It's mainly the work in the mornings, so definitely know what you're signing up for. Thanks again to Andrew and everyone!

The work was great and I admired the shelter's dedication to the animals. However, the rest of the experience was more challenging. I encountered much more loneliness and boredom during my free time than I expected. The opportunities to get around or to meet people to spend my time with were more limited than I had been told and I expected. So I decided to leave earlier than planned. If I had known beforehand, I would still have chosen to do it, but I would have opted for a shorter stay. I was just sorry to feel that my decision wasn't fully understood.

Thank you for your review, Ilaria. We understand that the rural location and quiet afternoons and evenings were more challenging than you had expected, and your experience has encouraged us to make this even clearer to future volunteers. I was sorry to read that you felt your decision wasn't fully understood, as I hope the time we spent talking over a drink showed that we did understand and respect your reasons.

I really loved this place!! This was my first visit and I felt so welcomed by the host (Andrew) and the people working there. It was a really cozy atmosphere and a beautiful place to live in. In the morning you feed the horses and after that you do field cleaning. Me and my friend worked 4-6 hours a day! The only bad thing that happened was that the founder were a little bit harsh on us, but other than that I loved this experience and would a 100% do it again!

Thank you for your feedback.

We’re sorry the experience did not meet your expectations. As explained during your stay, we are a small working rescue centre and the role requires a level of independence and initiative that was not yet in place during the first few days.

For this reason, it became clear early on that the placement was not the right fit, and it was ended sooner than planned.

We remained in contact and ensured you were able to make onward arrangements safely.
