Come help in our Permaculture Shelter. A safe place for victims of of domestic or sexual violence. A place to learn new skills, a place to be your happy self.
Those that are inclined to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable that are living with very little, will find this a very fulfilling place to volunteer. We are also very nature conscious and very interested in environment restoration, renewal and sustainability using permacultural methods and other Eco-friendly methods.
We are a fairly new shelter in operation, with residents and a working farm. This is a great opportunity for a person to learn and make a difference while receiving a great cultural experience. Come help us serve, connect and grow.
"It is one of the most beautiful compensations of life that no person can sincerely try to help another without helping themselves." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~
In addition to volunteer opportunities we offer internship positions and supervision can be provided. We have worked with international and local universities.
Our project is a grass roots women's shelter in Kenya, East Africa for victims of sexual and domestic violence. It is the first shelter of its kind in the country.
Our ladies are from very marginalized poor backgrounds and have suffered terrible ordeals. Many have no where else to go after years of abuse.
Our services include safe shelter, counseling, advocacy, education and transitional assistance done through placement, vocational guidance and training.
All our programs and activities at the shelter assist the residents and the shelter towards becoming self-sustaining. Our aim is to have a shelter that uses Eco-friendly, self-sustaining products and that uses the farm as the main way to sustain the shelter needs and producing for most of it own needs. We have recently introduced permaculture and vertical gardening. Our power source is solar and biogas. We also have a good water collection system and have recently drilled our own borehole/water well. Recycling is essential.
We are also in the process of initiating a new program introducing mental health and coaching and would really welcome some help. We also partner with nearby schools and have started family life classes programs. It is beautiful and the experience of working with this organizations would be very rewarding. We are also looking for a single person or couple seeking a long term stay in Kenya where you can volunteer and contribute your passion for a community-based nonprofit.
In Addition, If you are planning on visiting Kenya, this is a wonderful opportunity. Beautiful people with beautiful sceneries. Naivasha is a popular destination place. You can enjoy affordable safaris. We have the only freshwater lake in the East Rift valley with lots of activities around the lake and the surrounding areas including site seeing, hiking and camping. Parts of the movie Out of Africa was shot near lake Naivasha. The Elsamere Conservatory by lake Naivasha was home to Joy Adamsomn-- "Born Free" . Discover this and many other hidden treasure around Naivasha and its history. Did you know we(Naivasha) are one of the largest producers of cut flowers in the world? There are many different types of transportation available and transfers from the airport are easy. We can help you make any arrangements you need assistance with.

Ladies share the house with our ladies and live with them. They are not private rooms but a room is share by four.(2 double Decker beds). Men would have to stay at one of our trustees home off site or make other arrangements offsite nearby since it would be odd staying at a woman's shelter. Men receive free meals(3 per day) but have to pay for their room which can be rented from a neighboring apartment for $20 dollars a month if available. We do not own the rooms. They are very modest 4 walls but we provide free bedding's for the volunteers. All meals can be shared with our residents and meals are mainly vegetarian. Volunteer are asked to help and participate in meal preparation and other house chores.
