With the aim to provide quality education to the young generation of the village, the program Himalayan Cultural Exchange was born. It is true that-“With drive and a bit of talent, you can move mountains” and with this in mind, the program seeks the help of the volunteers from all over the world who believe in making a change in the lives of these kids through a simple act of kindness and knowledge sharing. One of the important highlights of the program is the “Teach English Project”. The project aims at imparting communication skills in English through interaction with the volunteers and other fun filled activities which not only help them learn the basics of the language but also make them confident enough to speak and interact making them ready for the professional world. The project does not limit them just to learning a language but also gives them the exposure because of involvement of volunteers from all over the world which arouses the much needed curiosity in them for their dreams to take flight. The program is not like any other volunteering program. Not only do the volunteers get to make a difference in someone’s life, they also get to experience the culture of the region like a local rather than a tourist. The hospitable locals treat the volunteers as a part of their own family and it isn’t rare for volunteers to get invited to their homes every now and then to grab a cup of chai and learn more about their traditions and values. The volunteers are in awe of the scenic beauty of the place and the treks and hikes in the mountains add the thrill and adventure to their experience. With such a peaceful backdrop that the place has to offer, it is the perfect way for volunteers to discover more about themselves by losing themselves in the service of others. It aims at marketing the village and its nearby areas as a tourist destination by showing the magic and spirit of the place to the entire world.
