Be our "Hostel Sitter" near the Baltic Sea

We had an amazing time at the hostel. It is very peaceful and full of nature; some of our tasks included cleaning outside and picking apples, which we loved. It is a bit out of the way, but a 10 minute bike to a grocery and cafe. Easy to take bus and do larger day trips (we did CPH, it's possible!). Silke was fantastic and really cares about all of the people in the hostel. Also the rooms are so cool, I 100% recommend this experience!

I had a lovely time volunteering at the hostel. Silke is really kind and caring. It's quite isolating but the perfect place to reconnect to yourself and nature. Work is easy and breezy 🫶

I really enjoyed staying at the hostel! Silke is a lovely host who will do her best to help volunteers feel at home and introduce them to local foods and culture. She has a deep passion for and understanding of running a hostel and will help work out any issues. The hostel is located close to the Baltic Sea in the countryside, so it's great for a break from the city or for those that thrive in the countryside! There are lots of places to visit, I myself went to Flensburg and Eckernförde. There are also many hikes and bike routes nearby! Definitely recommend!!!

Quiet and natural place with nice beaches and a familiar atmosphere in the hostel. We always took time to have conversations. I really enjoyed talking with Silke! Through the garden work that I did I was able to accumulate inner peace and I took good whiles to think about my life as well as the connection with the nature! Thank you a lot :-)

This experience was simply amazing. Silke was so welcoming, generous and warm from the beginning. We would have nice talks almost everyday, which allowed me to know more about the local culture. It was so interesting and enriching. She was helpful and flexible with all my needs and concerns. The tasks were not hard at all, so I had plenty of time to rest, cycling around, go to the beach and enjoy Kiel. Also, the place is beautiful. The beach is very close and quiet. There're some local buses, but I mostly used the bikes. I definitely recommend it 🤗⛱️

Rural hostel, 1.5 hour bus ride to the city. No WiFi and communication is done through email, come with data! Cold in basement bedrooms, bring warm clothes. Good work hours and simple tasks. Sometimes peaceful, often full of kids and loud. Silke was kind and brought us treats. She would ask for suggestions but didn't implement any. Bad experience, 4 days after leaving she accused me of stealing things that were accessible to everyone. The manner that this was communicated and the lack of reasoning provided was hurtful and I feel betrayed after us having a previously good relationship.

Kind of funny how we talked about reviews in general and -if I remember right- how we agreed that it is sometimes better to leave no review than an inappropriate review as there are always two sides of the story. So here is my side and even though I decided not write a review for the above reasons I do not want to leave yours uncommented.

You are the happy-go-lucky type of person which is nice but also in your case leaves me with a few trust issues. When you came and just took food from boxes in the basement without asking, I already thought that if I were you I would have asked before taking it in the first place. We talked about it. Later on during your stay it would also have been easy to ask if it was ok to use any of the things I bought for the hostel shop.

The way you make it sound now is that every guest would also easily pass by the food and drinks that disappeared. That is not the case. I store them in different places and shelves in the private rooms in the basement and they disappeared over a longer period of time than any guest had stayed. Guests unfortunately do also take things with them such as cutlery or mugs, books or games. Not nice either. But no need to search the basement (which is only unlocked while we are around) for food as all those things are available for taking and "forgetting" to pay in the little hostel shop box upstairs.

There are still some unanswered questions and they most likely will not be answered as only you will know. The explanations you gave me did not convince me but, as I wrote to you before, I need to draw a line and let it go. I am sorry for not addressing the issue while you were still here and be more clear about it.

And this is to my future volunteers concerning Sabrinas other remarks about staying at my hostel:

The Basement is colder than the rest of the house. If it is a hot summer it can be nice that way. In cold summers I can provide you with an extra blanket for the night and in very cold summers I even have a heater. Basement sounds a bit like prison, but the rooms have nice big windows to open and let some warm summer air in.

Communication is not necessarily via mail, though I would not think that they take up lots of data. Text messages and calls are possible, too, whatever you prefer. Also smoke signals from the bonfire are an option.

In July and August the hostel is very busy. So be prepared to run into some noisy kids (or teenagers or grown ups). If you prefer a quite stay please come in spring or autumn. Most of my guests are lovely people and in a relaxed holiday mood, though.

When I do not immediately take your suggestions for improvement into action please do not be disappointed. It sometimes takes a while as I am not the fastest anyway and when it is high season days can be long and my head is full with other things. But they will not be forgotten.

And finally: I will do my best to talk more openly about the things I do not approve of. Please so the same!

Silke was very welcoming and helpful for my entire stay, and would often help alongside myself and other volunteers so you're never under pressure. There's a lot to learn regarding guest hospitality, and assisting people in the hostel, but it's pretty simple in the end, and easy to pick up. Working here allowed time to switch off and enjoy the peace of being right near the sea and countryside. The private room I stayed in was very comfortable, and especially so during the hotter days, since it was below the hostel, and very cool. Would very much recommend.

This was our first experience with Worldpackers and it was amazing. Silke was incredibly generous, kind and calm, and made everybody feel welcome at the hostel, guests as well as volunteers. She took the time to get to know us, and we felt like our work made a difference. The workload wasn't very big and could often be worked around our schedule if we had made plans to go somewhere. We definitely recommend it, and would return if we got the chance again:) Nanna and Astrid

I love the experience in this Hostel. It is a quiet place near the sea. The tasks were not complicated and when you finish, you have enough time to explore the area by bike. Silke is a really nice person! You can contact her anytime you need. I recommend everyone to come here
