A experiência

If your English is decent and you stay 4+ weeks we'll train you for reception, otherwise we'll be happy to have you on our housekeeping team. All staff, even reception do some housekeeping work. Volunteers can also lead activities, such as Beer Pong or Sunset Walking Tour. We're in the heart of downtown so there's always something going on around us and our volunteers often make lifelong friends.

Detalhes

The program follows the cultural exchange tradition of providing accommodation in exchange for help: allowing young travelers to stretch their limited budget; extend their time in the country they are visiting; learn about other cultures and people to help bring cross cultural understanding and provide an opportunity for participants to strengthen their languages skills of the host country. This practice dates back at least 100 years, originating in Germany and is part of what defines a hostel. Hostel sponsored social activities, along with volunteer participants are what make hostels unique and foster the cultural experience for guests and volunteers alike as well as the hostel’s permanent staff.

We do not host locals or people looking to move to San Diego or the USA in search of opportunities.

Atividades & Turnos

There are 5-hour morning, afternoon and evening shifts with duties involving doing laundry, cleaning bathrooms, common rooms, the kitchen and rooms. For the right person, we'll also train them for reception duties which include making reservations, checking guests in and handling cash. Reception shifts vary from 5 to 8 hours but not more than 25 weekly hours. There is an overnight shift that all receptionists must do once in awhile.

Regras

We believe hostels are a place of inclusion and expect all our team members to be open minded, accepting and curious about others and the world. We expect the respect we give to our team and our guests is reciprocated. We like to laugh at ourselves and weird, wonderful world of hostels and like staff who can roll with hostel life.

We are a no smoking/vaping facility (by law). While we expect our team to enjoy their time in San Diego, it is necessary team members be sober and fit to work. No use of 'substances' is allowed while on shift.

We don't tolerate abusive, racist or misogynist behavior by guests or team members.

Team members share a dorm and we do expect they keep their living space tolerably clean.

We do not accept people traveling to the USA on a tourist/ESTA visa as that does not allow for work permit.
