I spent two months at the hostel and can recommend the experience. In general work is easy (even if it can get quite busy in high season) and the benefits you get out of your stay are above average (like free yoga, surfing, excursions, etc.). The team is nice and everyone willing to help and make you feel comfortable. The surrounding are is nice as you have access to pretty beaches, a park and the town is walking distance away.

Elke stayed with us in June and July this year and we were really happy to have her here. Season was just starting, and Elke was being a huge help in getting the hostel ready for summer! She is a very responsible Worldpacker, a team player, proactive, and likes to bring in her own ideas. Totally recommended!

The hostel is the perfect place to come if you want to meet people from all around, enjoy nearby places and the beautiful beaches after work is done. The working hours are totally fine and since there are plenty of volunteers, work is not too hard and you always have a helping hand. The location is not perfect but when the guys are there they always take you anywhere you want to go. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, everyone's willing to help, recommended! :-)

All in all I had a good experience at the hostel. The hostel is pretty, the rooms are really comfortable and the location is just perfect, right in front of the beach. Work time could be a bit less, because I think 30 hours per week is quite a lot considering it's “only” free accomodation you get. The atmosphere in general is a nice one but I think it could be helpful to make some kind of reunions with the whole team from time to time because I felt there was a lack of communication sometimes. All in all it's recommended but can improve in some ways.

Background

Education

Languages have fascinated me since I was a child. I always wanted to travel and to CONNECT with people from other cultures. My passion influenced me in my choice of studies, I guess.. So I decided to study Multilingual Communication in Cologne, Germany.

Work experience

I have quite some experience working on farms, in hostels, surf hostels, etc. In Germany, I worked as a receptionist in a hotel in Cologne, and in Online Marketing/ SEO in Hamburg.

Travel experience

When I started my first solo trip to Australia and Asia in 2013, I never thought that traveling would become such an important part of my life. I really didn't.

For me, travelling is not about seeing as many places as possible, it's about the connections you create, the friends you make, the unforgettable moments and the different and unexpectet perspectives you get on life. When I travel, I am constantly learning! And life is about learning, right?
