Between the great outdoors, active night-life, and friendly faces all around, you'll be sure to find a memorable time here! Located throughout 5 beautiful historic cottages in the heart of Santa Cruz. Just 1 block away from Santa Cruz's boardwalk and wharf area, as well as world-famous surf spots, the location of this hostel just can't be beat!

The hostel has occupied the cottages for 30 years but the history of the cottages dates back to the 1800s. During your stay with us you'll cross paths with surfers, bikers, backpackers, and all other sorts of travelers.

On my one-month California trip, I had one of my best times in Santa Cruz. Meeting amazing hosts and travelers worldwide deepened my belief that traveling is more about the people than the place. I'm lucky to have chosen to stay in this cozy and warm hostel and meet all those amazing human beings. A life-long experience :)

It was my first volounteer experience and it was really nice, Sara and her family are really sweet and the staff is the same, I had a lot of fun with them. It's a calm place where you can have fun with guests and there's a lot of things to do near by.

The job is basically doing beds, housekeeping and sometimes weedinds in the garden.

It's really close to a surf spot named Cowell's Beach and Steamers for bigger waves,

One of the best experiences of my life! It was my first volunteer experience, and I was very scared and insecure since my English isn’t that good, but from the very first day, everyone treated me so well!! I’m so grateful for this experience!! I highly recommend it! The city is beautiful, the people are super kind, the staff helps you with everything, and the hostel is lovely! ❤️

i had a awesome experience in santa cruz, i went to a lot of awesome places for free, they have free yoga classes in the beach, bicycles and surfboard, which made my experience even better! the city is chill and with a lot of beautiful spots, the localization is perfect! one negative point for me was the shared room with guests, sometimes i woke up or i was going to bed receiving demands, but the staffs are very helpful and help us all the time with our work, i love them and i loved to know Sara’s family! i’m finishing this experience happy and with grateful!

I absolutely felt like home at Santa Cruz hostel. Sara and her family were amazing and I felt so inspired by them. She always made sure we were enjoying Santa Cruz. Sidney, Tony and Aurora were so special and were always making sure everything was ok. The working hours were so fair and the job as a volunteer was basically helping making the beds, making sure the hostel was tidy and neat, interacting with the guests and social media. I would highly recommend volunteering with them if you’re looking for a genuine experience. Thank you so much for everything! I couldn’t be more happier there 🩷
