The Secret Garden

Looking to see Vancouver Island, we are located 35min walk to downtown Qualicum Beach. The farm is a tranquil park-like setting with birds and wildlife to enjoy, as well as a working farm with Sheep, chickens, ducks and wild rabbits.

Hi, Peter and Sheri here. Are you a world traveller looking for a unique and meaningful way to experience a new place? Join our team as a farm exchange worker and help us maintain our beautiful homestead in Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island! From tending to our gardens and flower beds to care for our chickens and sheep, there's always something to do on our diverse and thriving farm. Projects Fall 2023 - We are looking at workers for one week possibly 2 weeks. There is Garlic to plant and potatoes to pull as well as a few smaller projects and we always need help with the animals. WE ARE LOOKING FOR: People who have had many jobs and responsibilities before, have lived independently (with roomies). Late 20s and up. Can speak English well enough to have a casual conversation with. We enjoy sharing the love and connection to the earth through gardening, animal care and living in a peaceful setting. This is a farm and we process and eat our animals. For many years we were vegan and have added meat to our menu as we are working on creating a sustainable life, where we can live off of as much of the land as possible. We buy legumes, wheat and beans as they are not native here. Being a farm and in nature, the full cycle of life is part of everyday living, from death to birth. We would love to have visitors to learn and grow with, in exchange for food and a place to stay we ask for 5 hrs a day 5 days a week. We are close to town 20-30 min walk, have bicycles for travellers and occasionally we do day trips.

Staying at the Secret Garden was my first volunteer experience. I could not find any better place for that. Accommodation was fantastic and homemade food even better. My hosts Sheri and Peter were amazing. They are very intelligent, fun and well organized people. I met some of Sheri's friends and family and they also were verry nice. During my stay I did completed many tasks, some were long and hard but most were enjoyable. There are bicycles I could use for my trips to beach and town. It is lovely place and people. Ps sorry for making George (sheep) fat LOL.

Hello Peter and Sheri, I want to thank you for this great experience I had with you, where volunteering felt like home, where I spent excellent movie nights, board games, family reunions, parties, and going to fantastic places, without a doubt I I felt very comfortable, I will miss the farm immensely, especially George, that I saw him grow, and feed the others, work was not an impediment for me, it is always fair, and about the food, it was always super incredible , the property is beautiful, and you are very kind people, thank you for so much, with love Gussi.
