U inn Berlin Hostel
Somos un ex-hostel y personas de todas las edades y colores viven con nosotros ahora de forma permanente. Con nuestras 30 camas estamos ubicados en una de las zonas más modernas de Berlín y puedes encontrar bares, cafeterías y clubes, así como centros de yoga y comida saludable y todo tipo de restaurantes a la vuelta de la esquina. Algunas personas que viven aquí necesitan ayuda y tu tarea principal es garantizar la seguridad, la tranquilidad y la limpieza en la casa durante tus horas.
Por supuesto tratamos a todas las personas de la casa con respeto. Nuestro personal es muy amable, pero por supuesto también hay que hacer el trabajo. No toleramos que nadie exija un trato extra o especial por encima de los demás. Todos vivimos en la misma casa y, para que funcione, cada quien debe hacer su parte.

My volunteering experience was very positive. The tasks were easy and simple to carry out, which made the daily routine smooth and well organized. The shifts were also very flexible, since volunteers could swap schedules with each other as long as Dona or Dani were informed, this gave us a lot of freedom and made teamwork easier. I really enjoyed this experience, both because of the welcoming way the work was managed and the opportunity to learn and contribute in such a pleasant environment. It was definitely an enriching experience that I will carry with me.

Disappointing experience. The project presents itself as social, but feels impersonal. Volunteers are treated like cleaning staff, working over 50h/week with no real space for dialogue, yet we are also the ones living with the residents, supporting them emotionally, resolving tensions, and navigating delicate interpersonal dynamics. There's a lack of communication and presence from the host. What gave true meaning to my stay were the connections with residents and the hired team members at the reception. This place has potential but it needs to value people over profit to truly make an impact.

The hosts are kind and flexible, and the atmosphere with guests is also friendly. While there may be issues that need resolving, they are usually straightforward. While the hours are long, the tasks are simple and easy. For me, it was a good experience.

The managers and everyone were super nice, and it was pretty flexible that if I needed a day off it could be arranged. The hostel is in a great area and it was a good opportunity to improve my German. The work isn't that difficult and the accommodation was also ok. However, the hours are a lot more than they say, for example, a weekend usually includes at least a 24 hour shift. You aren't necessarily working the whole time but you aren't able to leave during your shift.

Querida Kaya! Nos encantó tenerte como voluntaria. Gracias por tu compromiso y tu agradable personalidad :-) Solo para aclarar: el turno del fin de semana es de 15:00 a 08:00. En realidad no tienes que trabajar durante esas horas, incluso puedes dormir y quedarte en tu habitación. Así que básicamente solo tienes que estar ahí en caso de una emergencia... Creemos que hay puestos de voluntariado mucho más exigentes por ahí ;-)

The experience had its challenges. On the positive side, the location is good and it was the only available volunteer position in Berlin at the time. Communication was unclear from the start, leading to misunderstandings. A clearer explanation of tasks and more support during unforeseen situations would have helped. Security is limited, as access is granted via a shared code. They decided to end the arrangement after I missed some shifts due to illness, without prior communication to seek solutions.
