What you offer

Description: Panthera Sanctuary functions as a fully independent entity, meaning we do not receive any subsidies from the State or any other source. As a result, funds collected from our visitors and volunteers are what fuel research efforts and reserve operations in addition to covering activities, food, accommodations and transport. What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Program Details

Our daily activities enhance habitat for wildlife, educate volunteers on the ecology of the region and promote sustainable living. Our conservation initiatives that volunteers participate in include reforesting native tree species, wildlife monitoring, wildlife surveying, agroforestry practices, habitat protection and more. Volunteers have the opportunity of a lifetime to see the flora and fauna of the Peruvian Amazon, assist in conserving the reserve and contribute to a broader understanding of tropical ecology.


Activities & Shift

Our program runs Sunday to Thursday with a morning activity from 9am-12pm and an afternoon activity from 2:30pm-5pm.
Each day the volunteer activities change based on the needs of the reserve and involve research, education, conservation, and camp maintenance. Activities during your stay may include:
1. Tropical bird catch and release using mist nets
2. Herpetofauna night walks and ID sessions
3. Caiman monitoring
4. Mammal monitoring and Trail camera review
5. Reforestation of secondary forest with native trees
6. Mammal corridor
7. Habitat enhancement (reactivating collpas, snake nests, bat boxes, etc.)
8. Forest Introduction educational walks
9. Fruit collection and agroforest maintenance
10. Permaculture and greenhouse work
11. Bird watching and surveying
12. Forest Patrol walks
13. Trail cleaning
14. Camp maintenance


Rules

Volunteers are expected to follow the daily schedule of the reserve and be punctual.
No drugs or alcohol are permitted on the reserve.
Please respect wildlife.
Volunteers will assist in cleaning (dishes, tidying common areas, etc.)
Respect for other volunteers and staff.
