The Experience

Removing downed trees to decrease fire danger in our old growth forest. Moving rotted logs to create an area in the woods for classes. Moving plants that are on the trails. Planting an orchard and garden and tapping our bigleaf maple trees to make syrup for the first time. Your schedule is your own as long as the hours get done. Basic household tasks are not considered exchange hours and are shared among all living here.

The home was a wonderful experience I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to get away. Everyday I was learning something new in front of a stunning backdrop of the surrounding forest. It was so satisfying to be able to step back from a project and see exactly how far you've come, and even more satisfying to come in after a long day outside and enjoy some of Arehn's delicious cooking. Everybody was so welcoming, including their lovely dog and cat. the home is an experience I will treasure forever. :)

The home gave me a memory I will cherish forever. I really liked being in the forest and working with such wonderful people. Learning from them, I grew a little everyday. The house and people are ever welcoming and warm, and can you an experience of a lifetime. So if you need a story to share, the home is where you can live it.

My stay with Arehn and Jim at the home was a fantastic experience. I learned so much about building, the forest and myself. Coming from the desert living in an Oregon forest was something like I could've never imagined, I even played in the snow for the first time. Arehn's and Jim were super nice and helpful, they taught me something new every day and they helped me when I needed anything at all. I will miss everyone (especially Kelda and Sal) but hopefully we will meet again.

My experience at the home was amazing. Jim and Arehn made me feel right at home. They are easy to get along with and the work was fun! I learned about the Oregon forests during my stay, and I got to try many different jobs and learn quite a few new skills. The meals we had together were great, and so was the room I stayed in. I would absolutely recommend this experience!
