I spent the last few weeks of my trip at the ranch, and it was the perfect place to relax and wind down after the excitement of the past few months. I'd never worked with horses before, but the work wasn't a problem, and I always had help whenever I needed it. Overall, Pia and Julia were very friendly and helpful hosts. I felt very comfortable there. The work wasn't too much, so there was always enough free time, for example, to go surfing. I did find the price of $90 a bit steep, though. But for the experience itself, I'd give it 6 out 5 stars.

Staying at the ranch was my first volunteering experience with Worldpackers, and honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better one. Even though a few things didn't turn out exactly as expected (like the free surfboards or yoga classes) there are great alternatives, such as a free surf lesson :) Julia and Pia are amazing hosts, and the people here in general are incredibly warm and welcoming to every volunteer. If you need to switch off and get away from the chaos of daily life for a bit, this place is just perfect :)

My friend Lola and I stayed with Pia for a week before we realized that there had been a bit of a miscommunication. If you're looking to gain riding experience and riding on the beach regularly then this is likely not the place for you. If you're looking for a relaxed stay in a remote surf town then this is probably more your vibe.
Nevertheless Pia was kind and even offered to get us in touch with a ranch that was more in alignment with what we were looking for. Regardless of our early departure, I appreciate everything Pia did for us. (PS: groceries are in the city an hour away)

Pia cares a lot for the wellbeing of her horses. She has exact times which they need to be fed and moved, which is the main job of the volunteers. Therefore we didn't feel as though we had enough to do. We spent the rest out our time in Lobitos- either renting surf boards or in the cafes. The people are super nice and the accommodations great! Throughout our stay, there was some miscommunication, one thing being, we thought we would be able to ride much more. I would recommend this experience to someone who just wants some chill time, to meet nice people, surf and be around animals Thanks :)

Hosts are very kind, caring for the animals and volunteers, always doing their best to create the best environment for everyone. Work is not hard and actually very enjoyable. Watching the most beautiful sunsets while being surrounded by horses and amazing people, community, events, campfires was something i will never forget. Lobitos feels very safe, and locals are very friendly and welcoming. My first volunteering trip couldn't be more perfect. I learned so much, met wonderful people and created memories that i will carry with me forever🫶🏻

As my first time solo travelling, my month spent with Pia and Julia at the Ranch has absolutely ignited my interest in travelling more. The hours and tasks are not too difficult and you are taught everything you need to know within the first few days; With less volunteers it can be difficult to organize your free time as it is a 30 minute (fast) walk to Nuevo Lobitos. However with more volunteers or a bit of communication with Pia or Julia, you can easily have shifts covered if you want to do something. The housing is good and Pia and Julia are always open to suggestions. Thank you the organization!

The ranch is an incredible place: peaceful and quiet, you'll get to recharge your batteries! You ll have plenty of free time to explore around. The main village is around 30mins by walk. For an hyperactive girl like me it was lacking activities even with the volonteering hours and the surf, but if you look for something a bit less stimulating than me, I recommend. One of the things I liked the most was Pia introducing me to everyone in town; since it is a very small place, you ll know everyone in a week!

Hey Clarisse , thanks for your Review. Can you please tell us how to get better in the points you thought we have to get better at? So we can make progress. We saw you only have 3 stars and you were only there for a week.

My time in Lobitos was great! Pía is truly doing a great work with the community and the animals. The horses are very easy to work with and very calm. Work is not hard at all and I actually really enjoyed it. I hope the accommodations and the volunteering program is more organized and clear for future volunteers. There were no clear rules from the beginning, neither in the house or at the ranch, which sometimes made the agreement regarding the exchange unclear. Overall, Pia is a nice welcoming person, and her work with the horses is truly inspiring, it was great being part of this project!

I loved my time in Lobitos. The work isn't hard, just spaced out through the day, and the ranch is about a 40-min walk from town, so planning free time can get a bit tricky. This is much easier with more volunteers. The requested fee is for accommodation, so not a typical work exchange, which I didn't expect. But staying with a local couple was a great experience. I just wish I'd known in advance and at least had the option to stay elsewhere. Know that Lobitos has v limited amenities, but the community is amazing, and Pia is doing incredible work for the local people and animals.

My experience at the ranch was amazing! Pia and Julia are both very welcoming and kind. The six horses are well cared for and seem happy in their daily routine, which consists of beach rides (sometimes including swims), therapy sessions, naps, but above all 'meals' at the ranch or in nearby meadows. The tasks (mainly feeding, giving water and picking up the manure) are a bit physical but fairly quick and leave plenty of free time during the day. I spent 3 very good weeks there and I had a hard time leaving! I recommend it!
