This was one of those pinch yourself experiences! I feel very lucky to have been immersed in this experience, and it's one I'll never forget! The whole community is so welcoming and is also very open to working with and learning from volunteers to implement new initiatives within the program to support education within the community. Weekends are free time, so I'd recommend arriving through the week so you have a chance to meet other volunteers ahead of a weekend so you can organise to do activities together. Also if you would like to stay with other volunteers make sure you request it.

I spent 10 days with the home, and it was a beautiful experience. The community is so united and joyful, they always find ways to gather, spend time together, and make us volunteers feel genuinely welcomed into their world. Mr Ahyak and the other members would always organize activities for us volunteers and help us get around. The school where I taught english was amazing. The teachers were incredibly kind and caring, and the children were so much fun and happy to learn. My hosts were also lovely and I met many other volunteers who have now become friends.

I had an amazing time volunteering with the home! Everyone was so welcoming, kind and always made sure we were well looked after. My homestay and the couple taking care of us were amazing! Teaching the children was great, they were very enthusiastic to learn, and the teachers were helpful and nice too. During our free time there was always something to do, and the local people were happy to help us organise activities. I learned so much about the local culture and made memories I'll never forget. Thank you Mr. Ahyak! :)

I was only able to stay for a short while but in the time I was there I really felt so welcomed by Mr Ahyak and his team. Everyone was so hospitable and always made sure I had something to do on the days that I was resting. Beyond Mr Ahyak's team, the teachers I worked with were also so welcoming and invited me over for extra lessons, dinner and to make a local Indoneasian snack. The only thing to note is that the weekends are reserved as rest days so if you arrive on a friday like I did, your volunteering will only start on Monday :)

I had an incredible time volunteering with Ahyak and his community! The homestay was really nice and the couple that ran it were so welcoming and their cooking was amazing ( especially the cakes)
Everything was well organised with transport always available, and the hours of teaching were enjoyable and not too long.
You were able to organise activities in the local area in your free time, and everyone in the community were so welcoming and always happy to help. I definitely want to come back and see everyone again :) ! Highly recommend to experience real Indonesian life.

I truly had an unforgettable week at the home. Connecting with the local community and Mr Ahyak's network was an absolute pleasure. I saw so many beautiful villages and got the chance to spend time with lovely, welcoming people who showed me the authentic side of the home. I only wish I could have stayed longer!

I never wanted to leave that I kept extending! I really loved the singing nights, being invited to immerse in local cultures and traditions, the meals, and the hospitality is so great in general that I felt more at home than just touring the home. They got you all covered: transpo to/from work & sightseeing places, and anything else you need to have a seamless stay. I am proud to say this is one of the volunteering experiences I had where I truly learned deeply about ways of living a simple life and to be compassionate with others. The people here are truly, the kindest, heartwarming people.

Volunteering in the home was unforgettable. I taught English at an orphanage (colors, numbers, weather, emotions, hobbies, careers, etc) with 3–5 fun games daily, keeping the kids engaged and excited. Meals were always delicious and nourishing. Mr. Ayhak helped plan trips and activities — I explored waterfalls, springs, craft villages, went camping, visited Gili T, and snorkeled secret Gilis and so much more The kids were amazing, locals were kind, and transportation was never an issue . the home truly feels like home — see you later, not goodbye. 🤍

Even though my time here was only short, it was an incredibly life changing experience. From the beginning Mr Ahyak made me feel welcomed and part of the community. My host family was incredible, taking me to different local cultural events and making me feel included in the family. The teaching is simple and such a rewarding experience when the students are able to learn new skills. You will also have a strong connection to the other volunteers and the community. I highly recommend applying for this position! I cannot wait to return!
