Santiago Guesthouse Naha

Working in a guesthouse, you will have the opportunity to practice not only your Japanese but also some other languages since we receive guests from many different parts of the world!

On your days off, you can go snorkeling or scuba diving as well as visiting museums or other traditional and historical sites. Other than that, Naha can be quite a laid-back small city. If you are looking for some relaxing time with no stress, this could be a nice place to visit.

We are a team of international staff and we encourage people from all walks of life to join us through their journey across Japan. As a helper, you will be working as housekeeping 3-4 hours a day / 5 days a week in exchange for a bed in one of our dormitories. You are mostly expected to help with the cleaning, but you will find that a guesthouse can be a nice place to chat with other guests and make new friends (: In order to join us, you will need to be able to work in Japan. For example, having a Working Holiday Visa will do! Also, our helpers usually stay for about a month. At the moment, we are also looking for help in Reception, so if you speak Japanese let us know! In this case, we would be looking for people willing to stay 4 to 6 months with us.

I stayed at Santiago for one month and was immediately welcomed, by both the staff and backpackers working there. It was an amazing time. Hours were perfect and the work was made easier by the team support. If I could've stayed longer I definitely would have!

Absolutely fantastic! I loved it at Santiago. It felt like a home away from home and a little family. Everyone would worked together to get the work done and then would either hangout or chill. There were car trips, beach days, cooking/family dinners, karaoke nights and even a baseball game night. Everyone was so welcoming and amazing.
I can't thank the team there enough for such a lovely time. They were so supportive and helpful and helped me more times than I can count.
I wish I could have stayed longer. I hope I can see everyone from Santiago again someday

Santiago is a great place to be based! It is very close to everything, including restaurants, convenience stores, and local transport.
I got to explore a lot of the island without having to spend a night elsewhere. (You probably will need to rent a car to achieve this but there's a cheap place very close to the sharehouse)

The staff are super nice and willing to help if you're struggling to use Japanese services like Yamato etc.
The work is easy, very basic and never takes longer than 3 hours.

Overall it is a great place to volunteer at! Deffo worth a visit if you want to go to Okinawa.
