Umoja Children's Home

Umoja Children's home is a Christian based orphanage located in a small village near Bomet Town, a fast growing town in Kenya, situated in the green highlands. The area is home of the Kalenjin Tribe which is the largest tribe in Kenya and where the Kenya's best athletes come from. Volunteering at our Children’s home gives you the opportunity to interact with the children in Umoja Children's Home, the surrounding community and the staff. Again you will get a chance to visit Tenwek Waterfalls and the Big Mau Forest. We care for the orphan children at our children’s home and this is a noble cause which our volunteers really like to leave a mark to the lives of these kids through volunteering. The future and development of these kids are in jeopardy and we are the only hope to create a better future for them. A volunteer to these kids is a family member and not a stranger. When someone decide to volunteer at our children’s home he/she is the real help. Besides volunteering to help kids we also have other activities you can volunteer such as farming, construction, web development, fund raising, social media management, photography and video coverage, among many other volunteer works. By volunteering at our home, a volunteer gets a chance to go for a tour to Maasai Mara game reserve, Tsavo National park or Lake Nakuru National Park at an affordable cost with our reliable partners - Egon overland safaris and Kruman's Tours & Safaris Ltd. Besides being a children's orphanage, we also participate in eco-farming activities like beans, corn, avocado and banana farming. This gives our volunteers a wide area of participation and a chance to learn new skills.

I am Journalist as well as an Emergency Medical Technician, a Kenyan citizen by birth, a cheerful man with a bold heart to welcome, help and host friends from all races and tribes who have the calling to help orphan children and the community in one way or another. I have learnt to promote peace and live in unity with all people from various races and tribes. My greatest aim is to see a peaceful world with all people treated equally. In Umoja Children's home We have a few staff as well as a board of management and currently we have 62 orphan children - 36 kids between 3 to 12yrs and 26 above 12yrs. The volunteers coming to Umoja Children's Home need to expect a home away from home. We shall provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. Volunteers will have humble time to interact with the surrounding community and even attend events within the community. We shall offer our native foods as one way of cultural exchange. We really love when Volunteers come to be with us since we shall show them love and care as we all try to nature the kids by teaching them languages, sports, farming, communication skills, child care, music and many other activities.

My time at Umoja was wonderful. Everyone here is so kind and welcoming and the work is pretty flexible. Noah is a great host who has become a good friend and Joseph one of the most selfless people I've met. The whole Umoja family is truly so special and I miss them all already!

This is for the people who really wants to try to live as a local. You become a part of the small village very fast and feel very welcomed by all. Davila provides you with breakfast, lunch and dinner at different restaurants where you will try all the specialities of Kenya. He is the kindest man with a great heart and big dreams and ambitions. It’s been an honor to help him on the way towards his goals! Noah has a lot of contacts and is happy to show you places outside of Bomet, he can also help and arrange experiences as safari’s. He’s a cool and friendly guy!
