Volunteering at the hostel was really great! It was my first time volunteering and it was a really good experience. The host and staff were really kind and helpful, the work was easy and I had plenty of time to explore around Shimonoseki, which was a really nice town right by the sea. On my free days I did daytrips to Fukuoka, Yamaguchi and Hiroshima, which were easily accessible by train. Kitakyushu was also just a few minute train ride away from Shimonoseki, so I went there too often! My experience at the hostel was amazing and I would definitely recommend volunteering there!!

The hostel has a fantastic, welcoming atmosphere created by the staff and guests. While I didn't meet Jack until my last day, I felt right at home from the start. The daily tasks (mostly morning cleaning) are very straightforward and light, giving you the entire afternoon free to explore. Plus, the location is just a quick walk from the station. Highly recommend!

The hostel is such a lively and chill place—everyone's super friendly, and you get to meet people from all over the world. If you like Japanese-style rooms, you should definitely check it out. Jack is a really nice guy, and sometimes we have little events at the hostel. You can also go on trips with the new friends you make here. I hope I get a chance to come back again someday!

The guesthouse is very welcoming. I was happy to stay here. Jack and his team are very kind, which I really appreciated. Work is quick and easy, leaving you plenty of free time for the rest of the day. Shimonoseki and the surrounding area is a beautiful city to visit.

This was my first experience with Worldpackers, and it was a great choice.
Jack is a very friendly person who created a truly welcoming environment. The work was simple and exactly as agreed, and I had the chance to meet many interesting people, both locals and foreigners.
I spent one month in Shimonoseki, and it was even better than I expected. It’s a wonderful city that’s easy to explore, the people are kind, and I feel like I came back home much calmer and mentally healthier.

My stay at the hostel Guest House was super I really enjoyed my time there!! It is a really local place so expect not to meet too many international people although surprisingly there are some! The host Jack was really welcoming he took me to different activities, showed me food places and also cooked hella good food and gave great advice for exploring the area. Overall the people at the hostel are really nice. The place is an old traditional style japanese house which I personally liked a lot!! Also the work and team at the hostel is so chill so I would 100% recommend it! 5/5

Jack and everyone else at the hostel are super welcoming, chill, and just great to be around. The guesthouse is perfectly located, close to a mall and the train station. Shimonoseki won't be for everyone as it's a quiet place, but if you want a getaway from the busy cities and to relax, this is a good place to do that. The guesthouse is in an older building that's still being renovated, so parts of it may not be the best looking, but if you don't mind that, then I highly highly recommend it.
