One of the best volunteer experience I had in Japan ! Work hours are great, the roster is flexible. There is a pretty big team of volunteers so that makes a very nice vibe. The accommodation I had was great too (except there is not much in the kitchen for cooking dinner). The staff were nice and full of advices. Special thanks to Clara who really contributed at the good atmosphere, she made me feel home and welcomed ☺️

I could not be happier about the hostel being my first volunteering. It is exactly what I hoped for. You get to experience working at a traditional japanese guesthouse while being in an international envirnoment. Work is easy, very well explained and organized. You have lots of time to explore Takayama and surroundings and they're very flexible. I felt so so welcome by everyone since day 1. The dynamic of the hostel also allows you to meet amazing guests. Special mention to Ratree's food. Homecooked meal after work feels amazing. If you're reading this wondering if you should come! Please do!

I am so glad I had this experience! Working in Takayama was great. The work hours were respected and the tasks were manageable. In exchange, I got a room and delicious food. It was amazing to share this with travelers from all over the world. We had enough time to explore the city and surrounding areas. It was a fantastic experience that I highly recommend!

This was the best experience we could have in Japan! Takayama is a great and charming city, peaceful but never boring. Volunteering in the hostel allowed us to meet a lot of internacional travellers, working and having fun with amazing people. As a kitchen helper, my shifts were enjoyable and the food provided was always delicious. The accomodation and facilities were also pretty good, and karaoke nights are a wonderful memory for me now. Almost three months there flew by, and I left already thinking about going back. Thank you for this amazing experience!

Well, I spend 83 days doing this volunteer. Actually, I am traveling for one year long and volunteering for 5 countries around Asia and it was the BEST.
I worked as vibe coder, helping with cleaning sometimes, I loved the way they treated me since the beginning, as part of their team, talking with patience and being able to listen my questions.
I stayed on Namiki house that for me was a place I could call home. Traveling for a long time, sometimes make you miss your house but I felt like was my house.
As I spent almost 3 months, I saw 3 or 4 “generations “ of volunteers, now friends ❤️

Truly an amazing experience, coming from someone from New York I never got to see life that wasn’t loud. My first night, it felt like as if it were illegal to make a sound, I was whispering on my phone to my friends. The staff were very polite and friendly to be around, you don't feel excluded at all. The surrounding areas were beautiful, me and others climbed Mt Yakedake, and spent time in Kamikochi. The food is amazing, I spent too much money at family mart but I love it. I highly recommend this experience!

It was a very positive experience. The village surroundings are beautiful, the accommodation is very central and also very lovely, as it's a 100-year-old building. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming; I would have stayed longer if I could have! I'm very grateful to all the staff for being so kind and good people, and the food is fantastic too.
