Program Details

This work-exchange follows a 4 days on / 3 days off structure, with approximately 24–26 hours per week. Shifts typically begin around 8:00 AM and may vary depending on guest activity, events and operational needs.

For the Content Creation & Social Media role, workdays combine visual documentation and communication tasks. This includes capturing photos and short videos, editing content, organizing media, and supporting basic communication tools such as captions, simple brochures or sales materials.

We provide shared accommodation and two meals per working day, plus access to kitchen facilities and basic supplies. On days off, meals are available at a discounted rate or volunteers may cook independently.

A weekly round-trip to Flores is included. A $100 USD contribution at the beginning of the stay helps cover utilities, transportation and household expenses.

This is a structured work-exchange, not employment.

Activities & Shift

This role focuses on documenting and communicating life at La Reserva Itzá. Tasks include capturing high-quality photos and short-form videos of rewilding work, group hosting, events and daily operations. The volunteer will edit content for social media, help organize media libraries, support captions and storytelling, and assist in creating simple communication or sales materials.

While content creation is the primary focus, volunteers may also support light operational and nature-based tasks such as gardening, maintaining shared areas, basic property upkeep, and occasional hosting support when needed. Workload is generally light to moderate and may vary depending on guest activity and events. Creativity should align with the project’s values and overall communication strategy.

Rules

We value maturity, respect and personal responsibility.

Alcohol is permitted in moderation on days off or after working hours, and preferably within private areas of the house. Excessive use that affects work performance or the community environment is not tolerated.

Smoking is allowed only in designated areas.

Quiet hours are observed from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM to maintain a calm and respectful environment.

Internet is available in most common and administrative areas, including a co-working space and a small media room (“mini cinema”), but due to our remote location, connection may occasionally be limited.

Personal relationships between volunteers are not prohibited, provided they do not create drama, affect work performance, involve inappropriate situations (such as relationships with married individuals), or include excessive public displays of affection.

We currently do not accept couples, as we do not have accommodation capacity or guaranteed roles for two people simultaneously.

Recreational substances are not permitted in public areas. Discreet and responsible behavior is expected at all times. If substance use becomes excessive, disruptive or affects work performance, it may result in immediate termination of the work-exchange.

Flexibility and mutual respect are fundamental. If either the volunteer or the project feels the arrangement is not working, we prefer open communication and transparent adjustments.
