Program Details
Working as part of a team and under the supervision of a salaried coordinator, the volunteer will take part in all the activities at our day centre for refugees from the Samos camp. They will help to maintain and keep the premises clean, welcome refugees, prepare meals, and lead games and other recreational activities. Depending on their specific skills, they may lead workshops, language classes, etc. They will contribute to group meetings to define schedules.
Volunteers are provided with accommodation and share the meals offered to our beneficiaries (usually three meals a week); they will travel from the volunteers’ house (in town) to the day centre, by car with the other volunteers, or by bus if there is no room.
The volunteers’ house is a lovely, comfortable and friendly house in the centre of Vathy. You will share the kitchen with the others, and possibly your room if there is a particularly high number of volunteers. If you wish, you can take part in Greek lessons given by another volunteer.
It is a rewarding experience, full of emotion, and in a cheerful atmosphere.
Activities & Shift
La Maison opens between 10am and 11am and closes around 4pm; we also need to do the shopping, usually on the way there
Rules
Comply with the association's code of conduct, which will be provided during the discussions.
Respect for refugees and other volunteers is, of course, essential.
