Program Details

Hello, we are Ella and Lucien. We are an English married couple. We live in a traditional Spanish farmhouse, with 1 cat, a very large 20 month old rescued Spanish Mastin dog, on an off- grid 11 acre farm, in its own 100 acre valley, in Tarragona Province, Spain.

Lucien is a fabricator, engineer, carpenter, mechanic, welder, metal worker, lighting technician and inventor. He can design, build, make and fix pretty much anything. He is fluent in Spanish. Ella is an online therapist, yoga teacher and permaculture geek with very green fingers.

We haven't been here long, and we are seeking to regenerate the land in line with the principles of Permaculture, and to create a food forest and market garden using Syntropic Agroforestry. We have a fully kitted out workshop and run entirely on solar.

The arable land (11 acres) is mostly mature olive and almond trees. We also have fig, persimmon, pomegranate, lime, orange, apple, pear, cherry, apricot, grape, mulberry, carob and walnut trees.

We are happy for people with all types of dietary requirements to stay- however, because Ella needs to eat a low carb diet, we cannot specifically cater for vegans/ vegetarians as we tend to eat either dairy, eggs or meat with each meal. Ella loves to cook and feed people- you will not go hungry, and we get a weekly organic veg box so all the food is fresh, healthy and delicious.

IMPORTANT!! YOU WILL NEED YOUR OWN VEHICLE, as we only have 1 working car which we need, and there is no public transport. We are 15km from the nearest town.

Activities & Shift

There is always a lot to do! So we are looking for all types of help, including the following-

SKILLED- rendering, painting, plumbing, carpentry, metalwork. Taking cuttings of olive and fig trees. Driving a tractor, digger, forklift.

SEMI-SKILLED- Helping with sorting out the fields ready to plant, pruning the existing trees, cutting in and reinforcing steps and paths for better access to fields, making and improving composting facilities.

UNSKILLED- collecting stones to build gabians, making swales and berms, collecting firewood, digging, watering, cleaning, helping to keep on top of managing the bolsas (water supply) - if you are willing to learn, we can help you develop your skillset in all the above, too.
