The family working here is Ali and his mum, Fatma.
Ali runs the hostel while Fatma cooks and serves in the cafe at the front. Working here can be between the 2 places with cleaning the hostel in the morning and then helping serving in the cafe if needed. It's not too busy so an enjoyable pace.
We treat our volunteers like best friends and Homestay generates a great community feel when we engage with the backpackers who stay with us, especially when we get together on the roof terrace.
Ali has lived in Australia for many years so his English is excellent. With Fatma, her English is minimal but she's always smiling and she's great with Google Translate 🤓
You can practice learning Turkish with her!
We look forward to welcoming you to our home so that you can take your time to absorb and experience the beauty of Cappadocia in exchange for your effort of help.
Activities & Shift
We are a family run cave hostel near the centre of Göreme, popular with backpackers from all corners of the world.
The work is simple as it's mostly cleaning the guest rooms, some vacuuming as needed and changing beds when guests leave. Also helping in the cafeteria as well.
When it is the low season and it's quiet, the volunteer will work with Ali but when it gets busier, there is a full time cleaning lady that the volunteer will assist.
We also have a cafe downstairs that serves simple homemade dishes where you can also help serving and chatting with customers. This will also give you an opportunity to earn tips!
Working 5 days a week that can be flexible depending on day off of cleaning lady and if there's an expectation of more guests.
4-5 hrs per day.
Breakfast can be eaten together and a staff lunch is cooked fresh each day, again, usually eaten together inbetween customers, but isn't essential that you eat at the same time if you make plans for the afternoon.
We provide dinners for you everyday as well.
All is flexible and can be planned daily/weekly according to the guest intake..
Being just 5 minutes from the centre, everywhere is easily accessible on foot, either around town or to go hiking in the valleys.
Sunrise is time to watch the balloons fly over the town, (weather permitting)
There are lots of buses to surrounding areas for your days off, to go exploring further afield.
The area also has lots of horse riding and Quad biking/ATV opportunities and flying in a balloon if you should want to try any of them.
