Program Details
This work-exchange is structured around a balanced rhythm of contribution and rest. Volunteers work 4 days per week and receive 3 full days off.
We operate in two main weekly cycles depending on visitor flow:
• Monday to Thursday
• Thursday to Sunday
Shifts generally begin around 8:00 AM and may run continuously or be split into morning and afternoon blocks depending on check-ins, check-outs and activities taking place on the property.
We are currently in the early stages of operations, so much of the work focuses on preparation, organization and strengthening systems rather than high-volume guest turnover. We typically host 2–4 volunteers at a time, distributed across 2–3 roles, allowing for close coordination and a calm working environment.
In exchange for approximately 24–26 hours per week, we provide shared on-site accommodation and one meal per working day, plus access to the kitchen and basic supplies (rice, beans, pasta, eggs, vegetables, oil, salt, pepper and common spices). Volunteers may purchase meals at a discounted rate (approximately Q30–Q35 per meal) or cook independently. Discounted access to certain ingredients (including meats or specialty items) is also available.
All internal activities within the reserve are free to join unless a specific experience requires external materials or special supplies.
Once per week, we provide a round-trip ride to Flores (approximately half-day). If additional errands to Flores arise during the week, volunteers may join the trip when space allows.
A contribution of $100 USD is requested at the beginning of the stay to help cover fuel for transportation, kitchen supplies, utilities (electricity, internet) and general household expenses.
This program operates strictly as a work-exchange, not employme
Activities & Shift
As we are in the early stages of operations, most tasks currently focus on preparation, organization and maintaining the property rather than managing large numbers of guests.
Daily responsibilities may include:
• Property hosting support (welcoming guests, assisting with check-ins, communication and simple quotations)
• Preparing and maintaining shared spaces
• Light kitchen support
• Gardening tasks in vegetable gardens and landscape areas
• Trail maintenance and general land care
• Assisting with small group hosting or internal experiences
• Basic administrative support (when needed) and social media assistance
The workload is generally light to moderate. Some days may be more physically demanding, especially when working in gardens, trails or outdoor maintenance, but heavy physical labor is not the norm.
We do not require volunteers to handle accounting, heavy machinery or dangerous tools (such as saws), unless they clearly demonstrate prior experience and confidence in using them safely.
If a day requires extended hours due to group hosting or operational needs, time is compensated by adjusting hours on other days or coordinating support with other volunteers or staff. Flexibility goes both ways.
Rules
We value maturity, respect and personal responsibility.
Alcohol is permitted in moderation on days off or after working hours, and preferably within private areas of the house. Excessive use that affects work performance or the community environment is not tolerated.
Smoking is allowed only in designated areas.
Quiet hours are observed from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM to maintain a calm and respectful environment.
Internet is available in most common and administrative areas, including a co-working space and a small media room (“mini cinema”), but due to our remote location, connection may occasionally be limited.
Personal relationships between volunteers are not prohibited, provided they do not create drama, affect work performance, involve inappropriate situations (such as relationships with married individuals), or include excessive public displays of affection.
We currently do not accept couples, as we do not have accommodation capacity or guaranteed roles for two people simultaneously.
Recreational substances are not permitted in public areas. Discreet and responsible behavior is expected at all times. If substance use becomes excessive, disruptive or affects work performance, it may result in immediate termination of the work-exchange.
Flexibility and mutual respect are fundamental. If either the volunteer or the project feels the arrangement is not working, we prefer open communication and transparent adjustments.
