JeViVo (Jenga Village Volunteers) is a registered, non-governmental, community-based organization focused on improving livelihoods and living conditions in the Shikumu area of Kakamega County in Western Kenya.

Its main goal is to support the community through development programs and food security initiatives, and to fight poverty and illiteracy among youth in villages disadvantaged by their economic, social, and cultural background.

Activities & Shift

The working day usually starts at around 9:00 and lasts until about 14:00–15:00, depending on the needs of the project and the volunteer’s motivation and availability. Volunteers can support the project in different areas, such as helping in the daycare, assisting in the kindergarten with activities, or working on the field with planting, harvesting, and caring for crops.

On some days, there are also special community activities. For example, volunteers can take part in the women’s empowerment program, where baskets are woven, or join visits to disabled children in the community to deliver necessary items and check if they need additional support.

Sometimes the day may end a bit earlier if there is lunch at the host’s house, which is only a 2-minute walk away.
