Program Details

1. Vegetable garden development:
here you will manage the physical establishment of our organic food systems, designing beds based on zonation and water flow, improving soil through composting and mulching. Responsibilities include sowing crops, daily maintenance (watering/weeding), and implementing natural, non-chemical pest control. You will also document progress and collaborate with local community members on seed exchanges and traditional growing techniques:)

2. Farm planning & mapping:
you will develop an Excel database for a 2–3 acre farm, covering land preparation, water systems, and energy. Your role involves conducting cost-benefit analyses based on durability and environmental impact to create a data-driven decision tool for farm resilience. Additionally, you will categorize plant compatibility for natural pest control and produce technical documentation for community use

3. Companion plantation research:
on this position you will research and document plant-to-plant relationships (guilds) to implement chemical-free farming. Responsibilities include studying allelopathy, root exudates, and shade patterns to establish natural pest barriers. You will manage research plots, record growth and soil moisture data, and translate these findings into technical planting charts and handbooks for farmers

4. Pond & greywater management:
you will design and build a natural pond for greywater recycling and livestock support. This includes site selection, excavation, lining, and calculating overflow systems. You will implement plant-based filtration to safely reuse wastewater from showers and sinks for irrigation while integrating fish into a closed-loop system

Activities & Shift

you will work around 5h/day with 2 days off. The schedule is flexible - you can do the tasks whenever in the day ( morning, noon, evening...). What`s important here is to be passionate and creative about what you do

PLEASE NOTE that Sat and Sun are the only days when the host is home so they have to be kept as working days ( you will do some activities together, maybe go to city or have lots of convos about new projects). You can choose your days off from Mon-Fri.

ALSO, we practice being considered of family values and the importance of spending time together not only working but relaxing too. It means we would be more than happy to see volunteers joining/suggesting the games, movies, outdoor activities which we all do. We would also appreciate volunteers to take part in some small cleaning and chores!

Rules

1. VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUESTED TO PLAN THEIR ARRIVAL ON FRIDAY, 20:00 pm OR SATURDAY, 10:00 am
why? because the host is home only on those days & that will make the inductory so much easier:)

2. Indian cultural norms are different from the ones that we have in Europe or States, for example. So please, when you go outside - wear clothes that cover your breast area or sholders. Avoid wearing mini dresses or skirts, short shorts. For couples - please avoid kissing, hugging excessively, don`t do too intimate touching. The behavior of people who stay with us reflects on the way the neighboors view our family.

3. In the foundation we don`t drink or smoke anything. Therefore, if you smole tabacco siggarets - you can do it on our rooftop but not in presence of our family relatives. It is considered inappropriate in our West Bengal culture.

4. We have cats in the house, so please keep that in mind if you are allergic.

5. VOLUNTEERS MUST go through the document which contains details, room descriptions, additional info BEFORE approving their stay. The link is here:
