The experience

In Homa Bay, many women struggle to support their families due to limited job opportunities. Our community once ran a small tailoring project that trained vulnerable women with sewing skills so they could earn an income and care for their children. The project stopped due to lack of equipment and materials. With support from donors and volunteers, we hope to revive it and empower women to build sustainable livelihoods. 🌍✨

Empowering Kenyan Women Through Tailoring: From Adversity to Resilience

In the heart of Homa Bay, Imara Community Growth Network works to uplift vulnerable women and girls by equipping them with skills and opportunities to rebuild their lives.

To address poverty and unemployment among women, the organization started a small tailoring project where women learned sewing skills, earned income, and regained dignity and independence. Through this initiative, they supported their families and helped others by contributing to school fees, providing hygienic products for girls, and assisting vulnerable children in the community.

In 2019, a fire destroyed the tailoring shop, bringing these life-changing activities to a halt. Since then, many women who depended on the project have struggled to find stable income.

Today, we hope to revive the project and restore hope to women and families in Homa Bay. By rebuilding it, women will again receive tailoring training to help them earn income, start small businesses, and become financially independent. Income from the project will also support menstrual pads for schoolgirls, assist vulnerable children with school fees and feeding programs, and produce affordable clothing and school uniforms. It will also strengthen support for Pro Active School.

To restart the project, we seek support for sewing machines, tailoring tables, fabrics, and basic tailoring tools.

With your support, simple stitches can restore dignity, create livelihoods, and bring hope to many women and children in Homa Bay. 🌍❤️✨
