Program Details
Our volunteer program is designed as a cultural exchange between international travelers and our school community at SMA Santo Yosef Pangkalpinang in Indonesia.
Volunteers support students mainly through English conversation practice, cultural sharing, and interactive classroom activities. Their presence helps students gain confidence in speaking English and learn about different cultures and global perspectives.
Volunteers do not replace local teachers. Instead, they assist teachers during lessons, participate in school activities, and help create a friendly and engaging learning environment for students.
In return, volunteers will experience daily life in Pangkalpinang, interact with local students and teachers, and explore the culture of the Bangka Belitung Islands. We provide accommodation to help with daily expenses.
Activities & Shift
Volunteers usually help up to 5–10 hours per day, 5 days per week, with two days off.
Typical activities may include:
* Assisting teachers during English lessons
* Practicing English conversation with students
* Helping with the English Club or extracurricular activities
* Supporting cultural exchange sessions where volunteers share about their country
* Participating in school events or creative learning activities
A typical day starts in the morning when volunteers join school activities. After classes are finished, volunteers have free time to rest, explore the city, or visit nearby attractions and beaches.
Rules
We ask volunteers to respect the school environment and local culture during their stay.
Basic rules include:
* Be respectful and friendly toward students, teachers, and the local community
* Follow the agreed volunteer schedule and communicate if there are changes
* Dress modestly and appropriately while at school
* Do not smoke or consume alcohol within the school area
* Respect accommodation spaces and keep them clean
* Follow Indonesian cultural norms and laws
Our goal is to create a safe, respectful, and positive environment for both volunteers and students.
