I honestly couldn't have asked for a better host or volunteer experience. Umu and her family made me feel so welcoming, gave me great advice, and really helped me feel comfortable. On top of volunteering, Umu took the time to show me around, teach me about the local culture, and take me to some awesome spots.
The accommodations were super clean, safe, and comfortable. If you're a first-time solo traveler or student looking to volunteer abroad, I literally cannot recommend this placement enough. Massive thank you to Umu and her family!

I went to Kenya at Umu's home for my first solo trip and it was wonderful. I recommend this place at 100% ! Umu and all her family are so kind and friendly! They make you feel like home. There is 3 different schools and you can choose where do you want to go and switch between these 3 the project every day as you want. her house is nice, you have your own room and there is normal toilet too:) They are very attentive and always take your opinion and needs into account, whether it's regarding wake-up times, activities or meals. If you're still hesitating, stop and go ! Trust me, you won't regret it

I feel incredibly lucky that I got to experience my very first solo trip with Umu and her family. I came back one day ago after spending two and a half unforgettable weeks in Kenya,I don’t think I’ll ever forget this experience.
Every day we visited different schools, taught English and created memories I’ll carry forever. Weekends we had opportunity to discover Kenya with her( best guide). One of the highlights was launching a fundraising project to renovate one of the schools we volunteered at, and seeing it begin while I was still there was amazing. I know I'll be back soon. Asante so much

I had the greatest time with Umu Rafiki volunteers! I could help out in the project and an orphanage and this was truly an inspiring and life-changing experience. Umu really puts her heart and soul into her project. Thanks to Umu, her family and talking to the local teachers I could really enjoy and get to know the Kenyan culture. Umu and her family are so open-hearted and welcoming and made sure I made the most of my stay and could also explore the coast, so I could really delight in my time in Kenya. I am so grateful for this experience!

I spent three weeks with Umu, where I had the opportunity to the project three different schools. The time I spent in the schools with the kids was truly life-changing. But what I treasure the most are the memories I made with Umu and her family. They welcomed me with open arms and showed me a world — a way of living I never knew existed. As an LGBT person, I never felt like an outsider; they treated me as if I were part of the family. I got to fully immerse myself in the local culture thanks to Umu, who is not only my host and guide anymore, but also a lifelong friend. Asante sana, dada <3

Umu rafik volunteers is a great organisation to undergo. If you want to experience the real Kenyan culture this experience is a great way to immerse yourself within the culture through living with a local Swahili family. Umu and her family are very welcoming and make you feel at home whilst staying with them. Volunteering within multiple schools is a great way to help the kids and teach them. I would really recommend volunteering with umu.

Volunteering with Umu was an amazing experience. From the start, I felt very welcome in Umu's family home. Living with a local Swahili family allowed me to fully immerse myself in the culture: eating traditional food and using local transport like matatus and motorbikes. I volunteered in an orphanage and the project and learned a lot about the local education system. Besides volunteering, Umu also traveled with me and guided me on trips to Tsavo East National Park, Watamu and Diani Beach. An unforgettable experience! I would highly recommend Umu to anyone seeking a meaningful journey.
