Program Details

Hello! I’m Steph, and I’m lucky to call a few peaceful acres in the Comox Valley home 🌿

I was born and raised here, and I truly love this place. I spend as much time as I can outdoors—hiking, mountain biking, and enjoying everything the area has to offer. If you’re keen to explore, I’m happy to share favourite spots or point you in the right direction. Between the trails, rivers, ocean, and local restaurants, breweries, and wineries, there’s plenty to experience. The nearby village of Cumberland is also great for music, arts, and biking.

I live here with my 18-year-old son, and my older son (22) lives nearby on his sailboat in Comox. If the weather cooperates, he can take you out on the water—a pretty special way to experience the coast.

My parents live next door, making this a multi-generational home. We’ve all lived here for years and love welcoming travellers—there’s always a friendly vibe (and often fresh baking from my mom).

The property is in a quiet rural setting just 5 minutes from downtown Courtenay or 8 minutes to the village of Cumberland, with trails and a river nearby, and easy access to the ocean and lakes. Life here is relaxed, with lots of wildlife around.

If you love nature and want to experience the west coast, we’d be happy to share it with you.

Activities & Shift

If you enjoy getting your hands a little dirty and seeing the results of a satisfying day outdoors, you’ll fit right in here 🌱

Spring is a full and rewarding season on the property, and I’d love help with a mix of tasks like raking and composting leaves, spreading mulch, weeding, tidying branches, prepping the veggie garden, clearing brush, filling the odd driveway pothole, and splitting or stacking firewood. It’s varied, active, and perfect if you like being outside and seeing real progress.

If you have some basic carpentry skills, there are also a few simple fence repairs and small projects to tackle. And if you enjoy a good “before and after,” there’s always some seasonal cleaning on the go—windows, siding, pressure washing, and a bit of painting.

Love to cook? That’s definitely a bonus—extra help with meals is always appreciated.

I work as a clinical counsellor in private practice, seeing clients in town a few days a week and working from home as well. I’m often around, so while you’ll have the freedom to move through tasks independently, we can also work together on projects. And with my son and parents next door, there’s usually someone nearby to connect with or lend a hand.

Rules

You’ll be staying in your own cozy 32’ trailer that is separate from the mainhouse —your own little home base with plenty of space to relax and recharge. It’s fully set up with heat, A/C, a small kitchen, couch, table, queen bed, plus a bonus room with bunk beds, a bathroom, and WiFi. It’s a great fit for a solo traveller, couple, or even a small family.

When the workday winds down, you’re welcome to soak in the hot tub or kick back by the outdoor fire pit—both perfect for quiet, starry evenings and that peaceful country vibe 🔥✨

Food-wise, I’ve got you covered. I’ll provide all groceries and aim to have dinners made as often as I can. On evenings when I’m working, you can simply heat something up or, if you enjoy cooking, you’re welcome to jump in and prepare a meal (this can count toward your hours too). Breakfasts, lunches, and snacks are help-yourself, and I’m happy to shop with your preferences or dietary needs in mind.

Life on my property is a good mix of privacy and your own space to unwind, and interacting with the 3 generations that live here.

You’re also welcome to use the canoe, paddleboard, and bike to explore.
