Program Details
We are a developing association focused on the use of farmland for educational purposes and with the aim of creating a micro-farm. We are considering the idea of organizing events on the farm to introduce locals and visitors to the traditions and basic agricultural techniques based on balance and well-being through PermaNatura. We are Mack and Laura, a couple with a 5-year-old daughter who lives on site, and we represent the administrative part of the project.
We are in the first stage of organizing the different spaces on a plot of around half a hectare. On the site there are two containers in development that will allow the project administrators and volunteers to live there to ensure supervision and care of the animals.
Currently there is a young female goat, two sheep, about thirty chickens, ducks, some geese, turkeys, quail, rabbits.
Activities & Shift
We ask, in exchange for housing and meals, for a minimum cooperation time of 6 hours per day in the different farm activities, 5 days per week, arranged in the best possible way according to the season and the weather. Meals are not included on rest days.
The various tasks are diverse; the land under exploitation has a planting of young olive trees that must be transplanted. There is also a need to organize a compost space, the edible garden, prepare ornamental gardens, water ponds and pits for the biogas digester, as well as water filters for drinkability. In addition, animals must be fed and socialized, pens, nests, shelves and to fit out the housing containers.
These missions are part of the exchange. Other tasks should also be contemplated within the community, such as participating in the communal kitchen, washing dishes and cleaning designated spaces, among others.
Rules
Locals, nationals and internationals, we speak French, Castilian Spanish and English!
For organizational reasons, the minimum stay is 9 full days (including 2 days of rest per week, in addition to the arrival and departure days to settle in). Groups are welcome and the accommodation is communal.
We do not smoke and do not drink; if that applies to you, do the opposite of the wind and it won't affect us.
If you know how to handle a shovel, hoe, rake, pick and basic DIY tools, and you enjoy working with good humor in a rural setting, you will be welcome, because the project awaits you!
Best regards,
Mack, Laura and Maela.
