Program Details

AMÓ – Lugar de Bem Viver is a cultural space of art and sustainability, located between the banks of the Maquiné River and the Serra Geral Biological Reserve. The space aims to invest in research and artistic creation, production of cultural events, as well as the promotion of agroecological culture and solidarity economy. The space was created by photographer Mirella Rabaioli, actor and event producer Pascal Berten and his daughters Lena and Manu.

We hope that volunteering at AMÓ will be a mutual learning experience and an exchange of experiences. In addition to seeing concrete results of the work, of course, such as a mud wall built, baskets of harvested fruits, a pile of cut firewood, a cleared path, or a cultural event held.

According to the current demand of the space and the interest and skills of the volunteer, we will jointly organize a work schedule. We also offer participation in other complementary activities, enabling a deeper understanding of the social and cultural reality of the Maquiné region and the North Coast of Rio Grande do Sul.

You will stay at Espaço Amoreira, a multipurpose space near the river with a large room for cultural activities and meetings, a shared kitchen, a bathroom and a private bedroom. At Espaço Amoreira, Capoeira and Theater classes take place once a week, in addition to occasional other activities. Most of the time, you can use the space freely for rest, leisure and work. Amoreira has fiber optic internet and a bicycle available.

If you come by bus or carpool, we can pick you up at the Maquiné bus terminal.

Activities & Shift

AMÓ – Place of Well-Being operates in different areas of work: art and culture, agroecology and sustainability, environmental education and ecotourism, networks of solidarity economy and rural development.

According to the time of year and the development of specific projects, the focus of action varies. Still, there is a constant work of maintenance and improvements of the constructed infrastructure and the natural environments. Among these activities stand out the management of planting areas, extraction, the works, and the preparation of spaces for cultural and tourist activities.

Currently we are three adults who work continuously at AMÓ: Mirella, Pascal and Bianca. The work is planned and carried out collectively, week by week. In our daily organization, one of the three adults in the house is responsible for caring for the children and feeding the collective, while the others perform the work. You will join this work team.

We ask that you support us for 4 days of 6 hours of daily work. The other 3 days of the week you are free to rest, enjoy or accompany any activity or event that happens at AMÓ or in the region. We frequently participate in meetings or events organized by partner groups in Maquiné or other cities in the region, and you can join us if you want.

As free time options, we highlight living in nature, river baths, forest trails and observing flora and fauna. The lagoons of the coast and the Atlantic Ocean are not far either. Every week there are free Capoeira and Theater workshops at AMÓ, in addition to other activities and occasional events. Mirella and Bianca participate in the women’s group Filhas da Esperança that meet weekly to produce herbal medicines.
