Program Details
TESOL Lab is a fee-based volunteer and teacher training program in Ho Chi Minh City for people who want to gain real teaching experience in a meaningful, hands-on way. The program combines self-paced online TESOL study with an onsite practicum, giving participants the chance to learn teaching theory first and then apply it in real learning environments.
Before arriving, participants complete the online phase of the program at their own pace. Once in Ho Chi Minh City, they join the onsite practicum for 2 or 4 weeks, depending on the track they choose. During this time, participants receive mentorship, supervised teaching practice, and guidance to help them grow in confidence and develop practical classroom skills. Depending on availability, teaching practice may take place in different educational settings and with different age groups. Accommodation, meals, teaching support, and program guidance are included as part of the experience.
Activities & Shift
Daily activities are a mix of learning, preparation, observation, and teaching practice. Depending on the schedule, participants may help prepare lesson materials, observe classes, support learners in the classroom, co-teach with guidance, or gradually lead parts of a lesson. Reflection, feedback, and mentoring are also an important part of the experience, helping participants improve throughout the program.
Shifts may vary depending on the placement and the needs of the host schools or learning spaces. Some activities may take place in the morning, while others may happen in the afternoon or early evening. Participants should be flexible, as schedules can change from week to week. In addition to teaching-related activities, volunteers may also take part in community life, cultural exchange, and shared responsibilities connected to the program.
Rules
Participants are expected to be respectful, reliable, and open to learning throughout the program. This is a structured, fee-based experience, so active participation and professional behaviour are important.
Volunteers are expected to arrive on time, communicate clearly, follow the guidance of mentors and coordinators, and treat students, staff, and fellow participants with care and respect. Participants should respect local culture, shared living spaces, and the learning environment at all times. Because this is a community-based program, flexibility, teamwork, and a positive attitude are essential.
Repeated absence, disrespectful behaviour, harassment, illegal drug use, or failure to follow program expectations may result in removal from the program. We ask all participants to read the full program information carefully before applying so they understand the structure, fees, and responsibilities involved.
