Program Details
We're an Anglo-Spanish family running a small, registered non-profit horse and animal sanctuary on the edge of a quiet mountain village in the province of Málaga, Spain. We live a mostly off-grid, simple life in a single yurt on the sanctuary land, alongside our two daughters (born 2015 and 2019).
Our mission is animal welfare and education, with a particular focus on ethical, force-free horsemanship. Because we're small and volunteer-run, we rely on volunteers to help keep the sanctuary going, supporting our family life, caring for the animals, and maintaining the land so the charitable work can continue.
You'll usually share a room in our village house (a 15-minute walk from the sanctuary). Private rooms may be available in quiet periods. Foster or resident dogs may be present in the house.
When possible, optional training in our force-free horse training methodology.
We don't have a budget for volunteer food, so we keep help to a maximum of 15 hours per week, this way you have the time and energy to cook, rest, and enjoy the mountains.
Activities & Shift
Depending on your interests and our week-to-week needs, tasks can be combined. Other roles we sometimes open (secondary for now, but possible depending on the volunteer mix) include:
Small animal care (rabbit colony, guinea pigs, dogs, cats)
Land, DIY and maintenance (pruning, gardening, fence repairs, small building projects)
Family support and home help around the yurt (cleaning, organizing, food prep)
Childcare for our life-schooled daughters
Communal cooking (vegetarian/vegan, potluck-style)
