Program Details
You will be helping to train our 6-month-old German Shepherd, who is very loving, affectionate and full of energy. The goal is to support his development into a well-behaved outdoor dog, so training will focus on practical, consistent habits. This includes leash walking, not jumping on people, learning to sit and remain calm, respecting boundaries (such as not entering the house or doorways), and not leaving through gates.
Your role will involve a few hours of training per day, 4 days a week, with flexibility on which days you choose. Weâre looking for someone patient, consistent, and ideally with some experience in dog training or handling.
In return, youâll stay at our BnB with all meals covered. You will have a private room with an ensuite bathroom, as well as access to a TV and desk. Outside of your volunteering days, youâll have 3 days free each week to relax or explore Zimbabwe. He is extremely friendly and will quickly become your companion- expect lots of cuddles and affection!
Activities & Shift
Daily activities will focus on structured training and routine building for our 6-month-old German Shepherd. This includes leash walking practice, reinforcing basic commands (sit, stay, calm behaviour), discouraging jumping on people, and setting clear boundaries (not entering the house or going through gates). Light care such as feeding and spending time with him is also part of the role.
You will volunteer for a few hours per day, 4 days a week. Shifts are flexible and can be agreed based on what works best for you and the routine. Training is usually split between morning and/or late afternoon when itâs cooler and most effective.
You will have 3 full days off each week to relax or explore, and we are very flexible as long as consistency in training is maintained.
Rules
We ask that volunteers have some basic dog training or handling experience. Patience, kindness, and a calm approach are essential.
Consistency is very important, so we expect you to follow the agreed training methods and boundaries at all times. Respect for the dog, the property, and house rules is required.
Good communication and reliability are key, as well as maintaining a positive and respectful attitude throughout your stay.
