Program Details

We ask for weekly 10 hours of work from each adult (approx. 2 hours a day) in exchange for parking your van and having access to our facilities:
Grid electricity
Semi-outdoor geodome kitchen with wood stove for cooking
Compost toilet and outdoor hot showers
Natural swimming pool
All year round access to fruits from our mature fruit trees (citrus, loquat, peach, apricot, apple, pear, grapes, figs, kiwi, pomegranate, feijoa and more)

What we DO NOT offer:
Food - you will be responsible to supply yourself
Wifi - there is good reception here if you want to bring your own

If you have a child(ren) at a similar age to ours, it could be a great fit, so we can share the child care sometimes - if that works for both sides. Other than that we live very connected to the village and to other off grid families around us, so there are plenty of options for play dates and activities.

Type of help:

GARDENING (weeding, planting, mulching, harvesting, watering)
PLANTS PROPAGATION (sowing the seeds, repotting plants)
COMPOSTING (collecting material for the compost, turning compost, applying on the garden beds)
LAND CLEARING (chopping down shrubs we don't need, taking away bramble bushes, strimming if you are comfortable with the machine or scythe)
FOREST (assist us cutting down sick trees or taking care of little seedlings which we recently planted)
HELP WITH MAKING FIREWOOD (assisting us while we are cutting the wood, storing it, bringing to the kitchen)
COOKING (Preparing lunch is always very appreciated job during the working hours
BUILDING/REPAIRING(carpentry and all other kind of building tasks)

Activities & Shift

You will work mostly independently at your own time and pace. Since you are a family we want to offer you as much flexibility as possible. Once a week we meet all together to discuss the type of work, exchange any ideas and feedback how to improve the daily routine.
We might have other volunteers on the land that will share the common facilities with you, that depends on time of the year and how much help is needed.

Rules

You will be expected to manage lighting up the fire in the wood burner, since we cook and heat our rooms entirely on wood.

What do we recommend you to take:

OCTOBER - MAY
good rainproof jacket and shoes
warm clothes for chill evenings
your own sleeping bag
torch
environmental friendly soap/shampoo

JUNE - SEPTEMBER
hat or clothes that protect you from the sun
your own sleeping bag
torch
environmental friendly soap/shampoo

SPECIAL WARNING TO SMOKERS
We are totally fine if you smoke, but we need you to be conscious about very high risk of fire in our area. We will ask you to always take care that you put your cigarette leftovers to the jar that is closed afterwards. Remember, that your one mistake could costs us loosing our land and creating a big danger to our neighbors.
