Program Details
What we need: Babysitting and a little household help, no more than 25 hours a week (could be less) scheduled in advance.
This means playing with Laila, letting her independent play (she does this often) feeding her when needed, and diaper changes (happy to handle these myself if that's not your thing, since I work from home).
What we expect: the right fit 🤝
We put a lot of heart into hosting, and hope for volunteers who are independent and can manage their own travel plans, downtime, and special dietary needs. We welcome you as an extension of the family — just know our hands are full between work, renovations, and a very active almost toddler!
Minimum stay is 1 week, though longer stays get our hearts (and applications list) racing faster, since consistency helps Laila settle in with new faces.
What we offer: your own private bedroom and bathroom, a garden, a big balcony to see beautiful sunsets from and a full kitchen for cooking solo or together.
Food on help days: simple breakfast (eggs, bread, veggie options), family-style lunch (often tasty leftovers), and dinner together most nights — simple or elaborate depending on the day.
We'd love it if you cooked for us twice a week too (big-batch leftovers are always welcome!).
Feel free to cook your own meals anytime with your own supplies or ours — just ask first if using ours, so we know what's in the fridge :)
Activities & Shift
We like to think of ourselves as organized... with a healthy dose of "let's see what the week throws at us." Seasons change, sometimes emergencies happen and we roll with it.
The hours:
No more than 25 hours a week, always coordinated with you in advance — no surprise shifts sprung on you over morning coffee.
I work full-time remotely from home, split into two parts so I can also be the best mom I can be to Laila. Translation: Rarely before 10:30 or 11am, so late sleepers, rejoice — sleep in guilt-free. Things generally kick off after Laila wakes up from her first nap around the above time, and evenings are usually yours too.
We'll spread the hours out flexibly, and we'll figure out the schedule together once we understand what you need, so it works for both of us and still leaves you time to enjoy your trip
For example, a typical week might look like:
10.30/11 am–1.30pm (babysitting shift 1), then 4–6.30pm/ 5–7pm (babysitting shift 2)
Once or twice a week max, we might ask if you could switch that second shift to a bit later, so Arne and I can sneak out together for groceries, errands, or just a much-needed breather as two humans who remember what dating felt like.
We'll always plan things together with you ahead of time, and we genuinely encourage you to speak up early if something's not working — way better than letting little frustrations quietly build into big ones. It keeps things easygoing and helps this feel like a real home, not just a place you're passing through. It's also why 100% of our guests so far have had a great experience with us!
Rules
We're happy to help our guests in pretty much every way we can -except turning into a taxi service. If you arrive between 3- 6 pm at the Train station or depart before 9am, we are usually able to offer to pick you, outside that there is a robust public transport (every 20 minutes) to and from the town or train station
Since we're all sharing one home (not just a house), we ask that you clean up after yourself, help out with the dishes, and do your part to keep the place looking like humans (not raccoons) live here.
Smoking? Take it outside to the garden — Mother Nature doesn't mind the company :)
Alcohol is totally fine, and you're welcome to bring your own to enjoy. We just don't play bartender, mostly because we have no idea how you handle your drinks — so consider yourself fully in charge of your own supply and your own good decisions.
No unannounced overnight guests or visitors.
Your bedroom is on a different floor from ours, so you'll have plenty of privacy. The bathroom on your floor is mostly yours, though it may occasionally be shared — don't worry, we've got our own bathroom upstairs, so we won't be fighting over the mirror.
Please keep your bathroom and shared spaces tidy — future guests (and us) will thank you.
The washing machine is fair game any time — just give us a heads-up if there's room left in the load so we can sneak our clothes in too and keep things eco-friendly :)
Our wifi is genuinely excellent — fast enough for video calls, Netflix, and existential doomscrolling alike.
We just ask that you're respectful of shared spaces and other people's belongings — basic roommate etiquette.
And last but not least, meet Burfy, our rescue yard dog who rules the yard with love and mischief.
