Program Details

Hello!
Our homestead is set deep in the mountains of Western Japan, focused on self-sufficiency and sustainability. We grow a lot of our own food, save our own seeds, and use our own wood for building, heating and cooking. The homestead is completely off grid and quite isolated.
Recently we acquired a separate property 30 minutes drive down the mountain, in the main river valley. We've called it the Blue House, and it's a normal electrified house, although it's quite old and in need of some restoration. We now stay there part of the week, and it's where volunteers are based and spend most of their time. Nearby there is a large store and restaurant, a train station, a CrossFit gym and white water rafting - all within about 20 minutes walk. There's also a large and famous Buddhist temple a couple of minutes walk down the lane.
Tasks for volunteers include helping to restore the house, building work on the homestead itself, general cleaning of windows, drains etc., farming and gardening work, forestry and bush clearing.
On weekends we normally go back up the mountain, or sometimes to a farmer's market in the city, so volunteer days off are usually Saturday, Sunday and Monday; although everything we do is seasonal and dependent on the weather, so that could change with common agreement.
The accommodation is self-catering, with free use of our kitchen and laundry facilities.
We look forward to meeting you!
