The experience

Our main focus is horse care and helping with daily ranch activities. Volunteers mostly assist with feeding, grooming the horses, cleaning and maintaining the stables, preparing equipment, leading short trail rides, and helping during activities with visitors. They can also help with general ranch maintenance, outdoor projects, events, and organizing activities around the club.

Life at Cokorska Polja is simple and connected with nature.

Program Details

Life on a horse ranch can be physically active, so we appreciate people who are willing to help with daily tasks and become part of our small community. Previous horse experience is welcome but not always necessary — the most important thing is a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and respect for animals and the environment. We expect volunteers to be reliable, communicative, and open-minded. Teamwork is important here, because everyone helps each other to keep the ranch running smoothly. In return, volunteers can expect a unique experience surrounded by horses, beautiful nature, and a peaceful countryside atmosphere. We are happy to share our knowledge about horses, ranch life, local traditions, and the area around us. We provide accommodation, meals (or ingredients depending on the arrangement), and a friendly environment where volunteers can relax, connect with nature, and experience a slower and more meaningful lifestyle. During free time, there may be opportunities for horseback riding, hiking, exploring the region, campfires, and spending time with animals, or just go by the city. We hope to create an experience where both hosts and volunteers learn from each other, share good energy, and create lasting memories together.

Activities & Shift

The schedule on our ranch is flexible and depends mostly on the activities happening that day. We do not have strict shifts, but volunteers are usually needed more during weekends and on weekdays when we have visitors, horseback riding lessons, photoshoots, events, or guest activities at the ranch.
Typical activities may include:
• Feeding and grooming horses
• Cleaning stables and maintaining equipment
• Preparing horses for riding lessons or guest experiences
• Assisting during riding lessons, trail rides, or photoshoots
• Helping welcome visitors and creating a friendly atmosphere
Monday is usually the quietest day at the ranch because the horses rest and there are normally no riding activities. This can often be a free day for volunteers, although sometimes club members come for casual riding sessions.
We try to keep a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, with enough time for volunteers to rest, explore the area, spend time with the horses, and enjoy nature. Communication is important, and we organize activities together depending on the ranch schedule and weather conditions.

Rules

We want everyone to enjoy their experience at the ranch, so we ask all volunteers to respect a few simple guidelines that help keep both people and animals safe and comfortable.
• Respect for horses and animals is our highest priority. Volunteers should always treat animals calmly, kindly, and responsibly.
• Safety rules around horses must always be followed, especially during riding lessons, guest activities, and while handling equipment.
• Experienced riders are welcome, but volunteers are only allowed to ride horses that belong to the club. Private horses owned by members or clients are not available for volunteers to ride.
• Volunteers who use riding equipment and tack provided by the club are expected to take good care of it and keep it clean and organized after use.
• We appreciate volunteers who communicate openly and inform us in advance if they are tired, unwell, or unable to complete a task.
• Please keep shared spaces clean and respect the accommodation and ranch property as if it were your own home.
• We value a peaceful and positive atmosphere, so kindness, teamwork, and respect toward guests, staff, and other volunteers are very important.
• Ranch life can sometimes be unpredictable due to weather, animals, or events, so flexibility and patience are appreciated.
• Volunteers should be comfortable with nature, outdoor work, dirt, changing weather conditions, and rural living.
We do not have many strict rules — we prefer open communication, mutual respect, and making agreements together depending on the situation.
