Program Details
The volunteer program is based on a simple exchange: accommodation in return for part-time help with daily hostel operations.
Volunteers stay in a shared dorm bed inside the hostel and have access to a guest kitchen and Wi-Fi. In return, they assist with basic operational tasks that keep the hostel running smoothly.
Typical responsibilities include welcoming guests, helping with check-in and check-out, supporting housekeeping (such as preparing rooms and maintaining cleanliness in common areas), and being generally available to assist guests when needed. Tasks are shared with the team, and guidance is provided at the beginning so everything is clear and easy to follow.
The schedule is flexible and usually organized around peak check-in/check-out times, with a fair balance between work and free time. The goal is to create a cooperative environment where volunteers become part of the daily life of the hostel while keeping operations smooth and welcoming for guests.
Activities & Shift
Daily activities are focused on supporting the smooth running of the hostel and ensuring a good experience for guests.
On a typical day, tasks may include helping with guest arrivals and departures, answering basic questions, guiding guests around the hostel, and assisting with check-in/check-out procedures. A key part of the role is supporting housekeeping work such as preparing rooms, checking cleanliness in dorms and common areas, changing bedding when needed, and keeping shared spaces organized.
During busy hours, volunteers may help manage front desk flow, coordinate with staff, or simply be present to assist guests and respond to immediate needs. At quieter times, the focus shifts more toward cleaning tasks, light organization, and preparing for upcoming arrivals.
Shifts are flexible and usually organized around peak times of the day (morning check-outs and afternoon/evening check-ins). The workload is shared, and volunteers are never assigned heavy or repetitive tasks alone. The goal is to keep the hostel running efficiently while maintaining a relaxed and cooperative environment for everyone involved.
Rules
Volunteers are expected to behave responsibly and respectfully as part of a shared living and working environment.
Smoking is only allowed in designated outdoor areas, and alcohol or disruptive behavior is not permitted inside the hostel. Quiet hours must be respected to ensure all guests can rest comfortably. Common areas should always be left clean and organized after use.
Respect for guests, staff, and other volunteers is essential at all times. Any form of aggressive, inappropriate, or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. Personal hygiene and a presentable appearance are important, especially during interaction with guests.
Volunteers are expected to be punctual for agreed shifts and to communicate in advance if they are unable to assist as planned. Basic honesty, reliability, and teamwork are key values in this program.
Finally, the hostel is a shared space, so everyone is expected to contribute to a positive, calm, and welcoming atmosphere.
