Important: This is not a riding position
There is no riding included as part of the exchange. However, if horses are available and logistics allow, you may occasionally be able to ride.
For applicants who are experienced and confident riders with solid horse knowledge, we may consider additional riding opportunities.
Our horses live outside year-round in large pastures. They are not kept in stalls.
We also share the farm with two friendly dogs, so you should be comfortable around both horses and dogs.
Please note that one week of the stay includes joining our multi-day pack trip to Portugal, where the schedule is different and involves travelling with the team from Tuesday to Saturday.
Activities & Shift
The help we need is generally light, around 4h per day, and may include:
- Bringing horses in from pasture on riding days
- Helping tack up horses before rides
- Very occasionally mucking out
- Preparing around 4 picnic lunches/meals per week for guests
- Washing dishes after lunch
- Driving car with luggage during pack trips
The schedule varies, but the work is generally light and spread throughout the day rather than being continuous.
Most weeks, there are 3–4 days when we prepare picnic lunches for guests and clean up afterwards. Combined with bringing horses in and helping with daily tasks, this usually adds up to around 4 hours of help per day. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy the area and your own activities or join our guests activities.
On days when guests have lunch elsewhere, there is usually less to do, mainly helping with horses and small tasks around the ranch.
Please note that this is not a riding position. However, experienced and confident riders may occasionally have the opportunity to ride if horses are available and logistics allow.
During one week of your stay, we will be running a multi-day horseback journey from Galicia into Portugal. You’ll travel with us from Tuesday to Saturday in the support vehicle, helping with some simple logistics such as transporting luggage and occasionally assisting with meal preparation.
Accommodation will vary throughout the trip and may include camping and staying in different guesthouses along the route, including in Portugal.
When you’re not needed, you’ll have plenty of free time to explore the towns, beaches and landscapes we pass through.
